Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Betty attended the University Tennessee Chattanooga. She was actively involved in Pi Beta Phi sorority and was a Cotton Bowl Queen later graduating from the University of Delaware. She began her career working for Branff Airlines in Dallas, later moving to Newark, Del. and Unionville, Pa. Following a move to East New Market, Md. she became, Director of Economic Development for Dorchester County for 16 years. Her many notable recognitions included commendations by Governor Ehrlich for her commitment to Dorchester County; his admiration of her accomplishments in expanding existing business; attracting new businesses including the Chesapeake Hyatt, and securing over 15 million in grants and financing; Senator Barbara A Mikulski for her years of dedicated service, and Senator Paul Sarbanes for "Fostering Positive Economic Development", "helping the county become more prosperous and increasing residents sense of community and quality of life."
Betty was an accomplished pianist from an early age, an artist, seamstress, and was known by all for her cooking skills. She showed her love by sharing her edible creations.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ross Tyler Causey; son, Ross Tyler Causey II and his wife, Ann of Kennett Square, Pa.; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Causey of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Ross T. Causey III (Marilyn) of Kennett Square and Paige C. Shelton (Joe) of West Chester. Also, her beloved grand dogs and cats, Henry, Mim, Lilly, Baby, Lini and Bella.
Betty touched so many lives wherever she went. Her many friends in the area as well as medical professionals became her extended family, and she dearly loved them all.
