Betty Ann Chance

GALENA-Betty Ann Chance died December 29, 2014 in Bayhealth-Kent General, Dover. Mrs. Chance was born on November 25, 1923 in Milford, daughter of the late George Wilbur and Emma C. Darlington Masten. Betty and her husband owned and operated Pioneer Farm on Dudley Chance Rd, where they dairy and grain farmed for 60 years. They also sold for Badger Farm Equipment and NC plus Hybrids seed corn and Madison silos. She was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church and Galena Homemakers. Betty enjoyed reading, games and gardening. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dudley Chance in 1999; her companion of 7 years, Earle Chance; and 2 sisters, Geraldine Vassallo and Jeanne Zeller. She is survived by four children, Louis Chance (Barbara) of Galena, Janet Bernardy (Wayne) of Florida, Robert Chance (Carole) of Princeton, W.Va., and Gerald Chance (Pat) of Galena; a sister, Barbara Hope Neri of Lewes; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md., where funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Operation Smile or Braille Books for the Blind in care of Galena Funeral Home.
