SALISBURY - Bettie Marie Wilhite died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her home. Born in Moberly, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Ben B. Bommarito and Bettie Louise Winkler Bommarito. A graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, she worked at Jefferson College in Missouri, Brookhaven National Laboratory and the State University of New York at Stonybrook. She wrote romance novels for Harlequin and Silhouette, successfully publishing 42 "Sweet Romances" under the pseudonyms Betsy Page, Elizabeth August, and Elizabeth Douglas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Blake Bommarito. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Douglas Lee Wilhite, of Salisbury; three sons, Dr. Douglas Benjamin Wilhite ,of Fruitland, Dr. Benjamin Andrew Wilhite, of College Station, Texas, and Dr. Matthew Jonathon Wilhite, of Kernersville, N.C.; and a sister, Alice Beth Camponella, of St. Charles, Mo. A memorial service was held Monday, May 23, 2016, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
