Bessie Macer "Aunt Dot" Dennis
FEDERALSBURG - Bessie Macer "Aunt Dot" Dennis, 80, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Chesapeake Woods Care Center in Cambridge.
Born April 2, 1927, in Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late James Macer and Cora Lee Macer.
She was the wife of the late Clarence Dennis. Mrs. Dennis received her education in the Dorchester County public schools.
She was a member of Wallace Temple Church for many years at Rhodesdale. Then she decided to join The Church of God of Prophecy on Puckum Road. She was an active member serving as an usher with the choir and Bible Study until her health began to fail.
Mrs. Dennis was employed on the McWilliams farm in Rhodesdale; Marvin Packing Co. in Sharptown; Harper & Bateman and Pasco Pickling Co. in Hurlock. She also worked in the local grocery stores in Rhodesdale, with Bob and Charlie All, Vernon LeCompte and Bud and Joan Campbell and at Dececco Cannery.
She is survived by one son, Carl Edward Macer (Geraldine) and (Tony) Anthony Blake of Wilmington, , Del., whom she raised; a favorite nephew, Bobby Thompson; one brother, Jacob Macer; one sister, Eliza Thompson (Freddie) of Baltimore. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Florence Simms (George), Sister Hill, all of Federalsburg, Shirley Jenkins and Helen Harmon of Rhodesdale.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Tom Macer and Joseph Macer and sisters Stella Macer, Margie Bowens, Ida Neal and Edna Murray.
Funeral services will be held at noon MOnday at the Wallace Temple AME Church in Rhodesdale. Burial will be at the Chester Cemetery in Rhodesdale.
Family and friends can all on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Hurlock and on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at the church.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Darnell Thompson, Bobby Thompson, Entoria Thompson and Tony Macer.
