NEWARK, Del. - Bessie Frances Miles of Newark, Del., passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Millcroft Healthcare Center. She was 91 years old.
Mrs. Miles was born Dec. 6, 1916, in Kingston, Md., the daughter of the late Charles Foster and Bessie Matthews of Kingston.
She lived most of her life in Salisbury with her husband, the late William E. Miles.
Better known as Frances, she was a longtime member of the Bethesda Methodist Church in Salisbury and was formerly active in the Altar Guild. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an accomplished bridge player.
Frances is survived by a daughter, Mary Miles Cebrat, and her husband, Allan, of Newark; a grandson, William Cebrat, and his wife, Jennifer, of Frederick, Md.; a granddaughter, Lori Nesnow, and her husband, David, of Newark; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Kathleen Cebrat of Frederick; two brothers, Roland L. Matthews of Kingston and Allen F. "Buck" Matthews of Westover; as well as a sister, Elaine Theis of Roanoke, Texas.
She was preceded in death by siblings,Hazel Kennedy, Stanley Matthews, Jeanette Pollitt, Mary Louise Matthews and Charles Foster Matthews Jr.
A graveside service and burial will be held at noon Wednesday (Feb. 20) at the Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery on Shelltown Road in Rehobeth.
