Bernice G. Anderson, 98 SALISBURY - Bernice Gattis Anderson, formerly of Head of Creek, Md., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at Genesis Health Care. Her parents were the late Ernest Ware Gattis and Emma Frances Dashields Gattis. A graduate of the Salisbury Colored High School, she attended Bowie State University. She worked at Cold Water Seafood in Nanticoke and Perdue Farms in Salisbury. She was a life member of St. James Free Methodist Church and the Westside Activity Club. She taught Sunday School for many years. She is survived by two children, Joan Stewart and Maurice Anderson Jr.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Waters and Addie Wilbekin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Maurice Anderson Sr.; and 11 siblings. A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at St. James Free Methodist Church in Quantico. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Stewart Funeral Home by Holloway and Downey in Salisbury.
