On June 5 and 6, the Bennett Middle School Drama Club presents a humorous retelling of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale “Alice in Wonderland.”

The twist? Alice lives in modern times as a tweeting, texting, and Googling teenager.

Follow Alice through the magical and mysterious Wonderland as she encounters perplexing problems and colorful characters including the Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and the Queen of Hearts.

“Alice @ Wonderland” will be staged at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, June 6 in the James M. Bennett Auditorium. Tickets for the show are $5, and all ticket proceeds will go to the Maryland Food Bank to help fight hunger.

The BMS Drama Club was started this school year as a Girl Scout Silver Award project to bring drama (the right kind of drama!) to a middle school that had no theater opportunities. Drama is important as a creative outlet for young people, and it lets students express themselves in ways they may not be able to in other areas or activities. It also teaches focus, quick thinking, and memory skills.

Girl Scout Cadette and Bennett Middle student Alison Sahler spearheaded the creation of the Drama Club as her Silver Award project, and is directing its first production.

The Bennett Middle School Drama Club’s production of “Alice @ Wonderland” is supported in part by a Douglas I. Smith Memorial Grant for young artists from the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council.
