BayRunner Shuttle has reopened its operations to Baltimore/Washington International Airport.

The service, which moves airport passengers between BWI and Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Salisbury, Cambridge, Easton and Kent Island resumed travel on Monday.

“We know everyone is eager to travel again and our team is committed to ensuring the safety of our drivers and passengers,” said Caroline Presburg of BayRunner Shuttle.

“All of our shuttles are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between every trip and drivers and passengers will be required to wear face masks for their protection,” she said. “While we are anxious to get back on the road again, we want our passengers to have confidence in our operations and the precautions we are taking to keep them safe and healthy.”

BayRunner Shuttle recently conducted a customer survey and of the 260 respondents, 82.5 percent are still planning to travel domestically or internationally in 2020. While 38 percent are ready to fly again, the same percentage are choosing BayRunner Shuttle as their primary form of transportation.

A majority are deciding late summer and early fall is when they will feel safe to resume their travel plans. 

“We are seeing people with direct flights from BWI are keeping their schedules because less stops means less risk for exposure,” said Presburg.  “Many people are also changing vacation plans to drive-to destinations. Our shuttles connect to buses in the West Ocean City Park and Ride which means they are literally dropped off at or near their hotels with limited transfers.”  

Dr. Memo Diriker, Director of the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network at Salisbury University agrees there is a pent-up demand for travel. He said people will be looking for direct flights and/or shorter distances, low fares, extreme hygiene methods and distancing in seating arrangements.

“Road trips will be preferred over long flights but the demand for trips to popular destinations will still be high,” said Diriker. “Business travel will actually be slower in picking up because companies are doing better than they expected with online meetings and the cost savings by not traveling are significant.  But when it comes to family travel there is no doubt people who have not been able to visit their grandchildren, adult children, parents and grandparents are ready to make the trip.” 

BayRunner Shuttle is celebrating its 15^th Anniversary this year.  The company has offered daily BWI shuttle service throughout Maryland from Ocean City’s beaches to the mountains of Western Maryland.
