Virginia Beach, Va. - Barbara Ann Hearn died Jun. 27, 2017, while in hospice care at Bay Lake Retirement Home in Virginia Beach, Va. Born and raised in Salisbury, she was the daughter of Harvey and Ann Ruark, Barbara was a kind-hearted woman with an easy smile who made quick friends in every phase of her short life. She graduated from Wicomico High School in 1958 and married Donald Gilliss, who preceded her in death. She worked as a dental assistant and later went on to retire from what was then Bell South. In 1977, she married Ronald Hearn. After she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, her husband cared for her at home for several years before moving to Virginia Beach in 2013. She is survived by her son, Jay Gilliss; a brother, Wayne Ruark; a stepson, David Hearn; a stepdaughter, Sondra Hearn; and a grandson. A funeral service was held Saturday, Jul. 1, 2017, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial was in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
