CAMBRIDGE - Arbutus A. Fehsenfeld, 83, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at the Dorchester General Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two weeks.
She was born in Cambridge on Aug. 21, 1923, and was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Ida L. Green Anderson Sr.
She attended elementary school in East Cambridge and the Seminary School for junior high and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940. She was proud of the fact that she lived and worked her entire life in Cambridge.
Some years ago she had worked in the office at Factory F of the Phillips Packing Co. She later worked for the C&P Telephone Co. as an operator, and also at Dorchester General Hospital as a switchboard operator. For 22 years she worked at Western Publishing Co. until she retired in 1982. Mrs. Fehsenfeld later worked as a property manager at the Crusader Arms Apts. in Cambridge for an additional 20 years.
In August of 1944, she married Robert T. Fehsenfeld. She and her husband had operated "Dizzyland" in Cambridge for a number of years. Mr. Fehsenfeld passed away on June 14, 1988.
Mrs. Fehsenfeld was active in the community, serving on the Board of the Dorchester County Department of Social Services and was also a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary where she had done volunteer work. Survivors include three daughters, Sara J. Shade of Cambridge, Barbara F. Phillips of Hurlock, Bonnie J. Slacum of Cambridge; one son, Robert T. Fehsenfeld Jr. and his wife, Carol R. Fehsenfeld of Secretary; one brother, Alonza H. Anderson of Ocean City; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many cousins and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris L. "Kelly" Dukes and five brothers, Leroy J. Anderson, Medford J. Anderson, William D. Anderson, Emerson H. Anderson and John T. Anderson Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Thomas Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Bible Academy, 1619 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
Pallbearers will be Peyton Hurley, Robert H. McWilliams, Donald F. Johnson Jr., Robert (Toby) Fehsenfeld III, Emmett Gore and Arthur L. Fehsenfeld.
