FBN--CHIEFS-TUCKER

Justin Tucker joining the Chiefs’ practice squad after 10-game suspension last year, AP source says

SUMMARY: The Kansas City Chiefs are signing Justin Tucker to their practice squad, according to a person familiar with the move. This gives the five-time All-Pro kicker his first chance in the NFL after a 10-game suspension last year for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Chiefs hadn’t announced the signing. Kicker Harrison Butker has struggled the last two seasons, missing two kicks in Sunday’s loss in Seattle. Tucker spent 13 seasons with the Ravens before being released in May. He was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists, which he denied. Tucker never was criminally charged but the NFL suspended him for the first 10 games of last season.

Spanish soccer federation postpones 24 Copa del Rey games after train crash, clubs show solidarity

Clubs across the country sent messages of solidarity and support to the victims of the accident. CAR--F1-ANTONELLI-ITALY’S WAIT

Kimi Antonelli is set to end Italy’s 73-year wait for an F1 champion. Here’s why it’s been so long

SUMMARY: Kimi Antonelli is on the verge of becoming Formula 1’s youngest-ever champion, and the first Italian to win the title since Alberto Ascari in 1953. For a country full of passionate racing fans, the 73-year wait for an Italian champ is puzzling. Over decades without a title contender to cheer, Italy’s legions of passionate “tifosi” fans have worn red to support Ferrari as a team, rather than individual Italian drivers. Now a young driver reportedly rejected by Ferrari as a child before joining Mercedes is changing Italy’s racing story.

Now, she is back, ready to not only lead the second-ranked Huskies on the court, but also become more of a vocal leader heading in her junior season. UEFA says Rennes will now host Olympiakos of Greece on Wednesday of next week at 4:30 p.m local time. The Europa League’s scheduled program is Thursday. AS--CHINA-MBAPPÉ

China takes Mbappé‘s apology ‘seriously’ after backlash over his ‘Chinese dictator’ comments

SUMMARY: China has acknowledged soccer star Kylian Mbappé’s apology for comments seen as disrespectful to Mao Zedong, the founding leader of Communist China. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday they take his apology seriously, even as state media warned that celebrities would naturally lose business for crossing a red line. Mbappé has faced backlash since Tuesday after his remarks in an online interview, and the fallout continues, after he lost brand deals with three Chinese companies and state media suspended broadcasts of Spanish league matches. The incident was the latest in which China has used its market to compel foreign brands and individuals to apologize for perceived slights.

FBN--INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Turnaround by the Vikings and collapse by the Chargers make for a first in the NFL

SUMMARY: The Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers are the surprising last teams standing with a zero in either the win or loss column. The Vikings beat Indianapolis 16-10 on Sunday and are now the only undefeated team remaining after losses by San Francisco and Kansas City, while the Chargers are the last winless team after Miami beat the New York Jets. That makes this season the first in the Super Bowl era, according to Sportradar, when the last undefeated team missed the playoffs the previous season and the last winless team made the previous postseason.

BBO--WORLD SERIES-ASHBY

Brewers’ bullpen cracks in Game 4 loss after Aaron Ashby breaks postseason scoreless relief mark

SUMMARY: Just three outs from winning the first World Series title in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers’ bullpen finally faltered. Left-hander Aaron Ashby retired all seven batters he faced in Game 4 against Tampa Bay and broke Andrew Miller’s record for scoreless innings by a reliever in one postseason. But manager Pat Murphy pulled Ashby with one out in the 11th. Murphy had used six pitchers already and turned to Antonio Senzatela, who got two outs to finish that inning. The right-hander began the 12th with a one-run lead after rookie Cooper Pratt put the Brewers ahead 3-2 with a solo homer, but an error by third baseman Joey Ortiz helped the Rays start their winning rally.

Caminero began limping after reaching on a throwing error by third baseman Joey Ortiz leading off the 12th inning, the start of a dramatic comeback for a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers that kept the Rays’ season alive. Caminero ran first-to-third on Liam Hicks’ single before being replaced by pinch-runner Cedric Mullins.
