FBC--NCAA-ELIGIBILITY

Southeastern Conference leaders to discuss kicking LSU out of league over player eligibility dispute

SUMMARY: Leaders of the Southeastern Conference plan to meet Thursday to discuss possibly kicking LSU out of the conference. This follows a feud over whether players with NFL experience should return to college rosters. On Tuesday, the SEC amended a federal lawsuit, seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent LSU from blocking the meeting. A two-thirds vote from the conference’s CEOs is needed to remove LSU, a founding member since 1933. The SEC has a rule against teams bringing back players with NFL experience.

FBN--PATRIOTS-SEAHAWKS PREVIEW

The Seahawks open their title defense with a rare Week 1 Super Bowl rematch vs the Patriots

SUMMARY: The Seattle Seahawks have gotten an offseason full of congratulations, their Super Bowl rings and now will get the chance to see the banner raised before kicking off this season with hopes of repeating. But the Seahawks know that none of that matters once the 2026 NFL season starts. They will start the season the same way the last one ended by facing the New England Patriots seven months and one day after beating them 29-13 in Super Bowl 60. This marks the third time in NFL history that there is a Super Bowl rematch in Week 1.

FBC--BIG 12-TEST TIME

Big 12 steps up in Week 2 with seven matchups against the Big Ten, SEC and ACC

SUMMARY: It’s test time in the Big 12. For most of the league, the opening week of the season was full of lopsided blowouts, including three in which the league’s teams scored at least 70 points. But for most of them, that easy quiz was just the lead-in to a serious exam against other power conference schools That makes this week of paramount importance to the league. There are seven at-large berths for the College Football Playoff and the Big 12 didn’t get any last season. So knocking off teams from the SEC and Big Ten could go a long way toward giving the league a shot at more than one entry when the end of the season rolls around.

BKN--PELICANS-GRIZZLIES TRADE

Pelicans and Grizzlies swap Jordan Hawkins and AJ Johnson in multiplayer trade, AP source says

SUMMARY: A person familiar with the matter says the New Orleans Pelicans have traded former first-round draft pick Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy to the Memphis Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson. The person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity says the teams also swapped future second-round picks. A perimeter shooter out of UConn, Hawkins was selected 14th in 2023 but has struggled to find a regular spot in New Orleans’ rotation since entering the league. Johnson was drafted 23rd by Milwaukee in 2024 and also spent time with Washington and Dallas during his first two seasons. Gibson is a 17-year veteran whom the Pelicans could cut to clear close to $3.8 million in space under the NBA salary cap.

US--JERRY SANDUSKY-ABUSE

Jerry Sandusky appears remotely in court as lawyers prepare a federal court bid to seek a new trial

SUMMARY: Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky says he agrees with his lawyers’ decision not to go forward with testimony from an accuser who wants to recant allegations that Sandusky sexually abused him years ago. Sandusky appeared in court remotely Tuesday in his latest bid to secure a new trial. The 82-year-old Sandusky has been serving a decades-long prison sentence since he was convicted of 45 counts of sexual abuse in 2012, after eight young men testified. Sandusky’s lawyer, Jerry Russo, told reporters that courts frown on granting new trials based on a witness recantation. Instead, Russo says he plans to take Sandusky’s broader claims for a new trial to federal court.

FBC--T25-COLLEGE FOOTBALL POLL

AP Top 25 shake-up looms after Oregon’s scare and LSU’s blowout, Michigan’s miracle

SUMMARY: Oregon’s narrow win over Boise State and LSU’s big victory over Clemson could impact the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll set for release on Tuesday. The voting panel of 69 writers and broadcasters will also consider Michigan’s 13-12 win over Western Michigan. One second was added back to the clock, allowing Bryce Underwood’s second Hail Mary to land in JJ Buchnan’s hands for a touchdown. If No. 16 Michigan drops out, it would be the first time in at least two decades that a team ranked so high fell out of the Top 25 after a win.

FBN--NFL-LONDON-FRUSTRATED FANS

NFL fans in UK cite ticket prices and ‘team fatigue’ for unsold seats as London hosts 3 games

SUMMARY: London has been a hub of the NFL’s international plan but some fans are speaking out on issues including ticket prices and “team fatigue.” Including their two October games, the Jacksonville Jaguars will have played in London nine times since 2021. Most tickets historically get snapped up quickly — as they did for the Week 5 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jaguars at Tottenham. But the Jags vs. Houston Texans matchup at Wembley Stadium still had swaths of unsold seats over the weekend, and some tickets were still available for the Indianapolis Colts vs. Washington Commanders game Oct. 4 at Tottenham two months after going on sale to the public.

FBN--INSIDE THE NUMBERS

No rookie QBs are set to start in Week 1 for just the second time in the last 19 seasons

SUMMARY: The days of young quarterbacks patiently waiting for their turn to take over after they learn the NFL game are mostly a thing of the past. That’s what made the Las Vegas Raiders’ decision to keep No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza on the bench to start the season behind Kirk Cousins a little unusual, even if it was telegraphed from the moment he was picked. Mendoza is the first quarterback taken No. 1 overall to start his career on the bench since Baker Mayfield in 2018. This marks just the second time in the last 19 seasons that no rookie quarterback will start the season opener.
