RGU--SOUTH AFRICA-NEW ZEALAND
South Africa outmuscles New Zealand 29-24 to take a 2-1 rugby series lead
SUMMARY: South Africa has imposed its forward power on New Zealand and won a pulsating third test 29-24 in Johannesburg and snatched a 2-1 lead in their historic rugby series. The comeback from losing the first test has ensured the Springboks cannot lose the series. They have a chance next Saturday in the fourth and final match in Baltimore to clinch their first series victory over the All Blacks since 1976. The Springboks didn’t lead until an hour in on the back of their influential scrum, then sealed the win with a long, energy-sapping lineout maul that finished with Malcolm Marx diving between the posts and thumping the ground in joy. For the first time in the series, they matched New Zealand for tries at four each.

LSU leaves former pros Wright and Harris off opening day roster
SUMMARY: LSU didn’t place onetime pros Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris on its roster in advance of its season opener. The move appears to avoid an immediate confrontation with the Southeastern Conference, which had passed a rule forbidding former pros on rosters, only to see that rule put on hold by a court in Louisiana. It means LSU opens its season against Clemson on Saturday night without Wright and Harris on the roster. Speaking on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” coach Lane Kiffin said it “wasn’t easy” to leave them off the roster. He added the decision was made for the “big picture of LSU and the LSU football program” amid the “uncertainties of what could come by adding them to the roster.”
