BBO--BRAVES-YANKEES
Yankees rally with 2 outs in 9th inning and beat Braves 3-2 in 10 after long rain delay
SUMMARY: Ben Rice ripped a tying single off the right-field fence with two outs in the ninth inning and Ryan McMahon hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th as the New York Yankees rallied past the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in a rain-delayed game that ended after midnight. New York improved to 2-8 in extra-inning games, halting an eight-game winning streak overall for the NL East leaders. Yankees left-hander Max Fried pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his first outing against his former team, but Tyler Mahle matched him with six shutout innings in his Atlanta debut. Austin Riley and Matt Olson homered for the Braves, but New York erased a 2-0 deficit against All-Star closer Raisel Iglesias with two outs in the ninth.

BBO--DODGERS-DIAMONDBACKS
Waldschmidt walks off LA with 2-run HR as D-backs hand Dodgers 7th straight loss
SUMMARY: Rookie Ryan Waldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off closer Edwin Diaz to give the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 victory over Los Angeles on Friday night, sending the Dodgers to their season-high seventh straight loss. Waldschmidt connected on a slider, hitting a shot to left center that barely cleared the wall. Diaz walked Max Kepler to start the ninth before striking out Tim Tawa, but Waldschmidt followed with the biggest hit of his young career. Diaz — a three-time All-Star — has given up 11 earned runs in nine innings this season. The Dodgers trailed 2-0 early in the game but rallied. Andy Pages’ solo homer to lead off the eighth gave them a 3-2 lead.

GLF--WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Beau Hossler leads Wyndham Championship as Keegan Bradley barely keeps alive postseason hopes
SUMMARY: Beau Hossler is the 36-hole leader at the Wyndham Championship after making an 11-foot birdie putt on the final hole. That gave him a one-shot lead over Ben James and Jordan Smith. But the more compelling drama was at the cut line. This is the final event of the regular season and only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup advance. Keegan Bradley birdied three of his last six holes to finish at the projected cut. Two players had birdie chances that would have knocked out Bradley and two others who are just outside the top 70.

FBN--CHIEFS-MAHOMES
Chiefs coach Andy Reid hints Patrick Mahomes may sit out entire Chiefs preseason after knee surgery
SUMMARY: Chiefs coach Andy Reid says quarterback Patrick Mahomes is unlikely to play in their preseason opener against the Rams next week. Mahomes, who had knee surgery in December, might skip the entire exhibition slate even though he’s been ahead of schedule in rehab and cleared for unrestricted practice. Reid suggests Mahomes doesn’t need the preseason work but might play a few snaps against Tampa Bay. The Chiefs have other quarterbacks needing experience, including Justin Fields and Garrett Nussmeier. Several players are dealing with minor injuries, but Reid downplays their severity. The team continues to prepare with practices this weekend.

FBC--MISSOURI-SENATE-NATIONAL TITLE
US Senate adds Missouri to the list of teams with a claim to college football’s 1960 national title
SUMMARY: A U.S. Senate resolution has added Missouri to the list of teams with a claim to the 1960 national championship in college football. Missouri Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt introduced a resolution during a meeting Thursday recognizing the Tigers for a claim to the national title. The measure was passed with no objections. Resolutions don’t have the force of law and by the chamber’s definition reflect the Senate’s “sentiments,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Missouri went 10-1 on the field with a loss to rival Kansas. But the Big Eight Conference later required the Jayhawks to forfeit for using an ineligible player.

Torrence was a second-round pick in the 2023 draft and a starter since his rookie season. He was entering the final year of his contract.

FBC--IOWA ST-CONFIDENT ROGERS
Cyclones’ new coach believes they can reach Big 12 title game. ‘We’re not signing up for 2nd place’
SUMMARY: New Iowa State coach Jimmy Rogers is nothing if not confident. Rogers, hired in December to replace Matt Campbell, takes over a Cyclones team that the media picked to finish last in the Big 12. Rogers admitted to reporters in Ames, Iowa this week that he was the one who picked the Cyclones to make it to the Big 12 championship game in an On3.com anonymous coaches poll. Rogers said people would wonder why he’s head coach at Iowa State if he didn’t think the team could win. He said he was hired to win and that’s what he plans to do.

Niewiadoma-Phinney wins Mont Ventoux stage to take overall lead on Women’s Tour de France
SUMMARY: Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney has launched a decisive attack up Mont Ventoux to win the seventh stage of the Women’s Tour de France. She has also taken the overall lead from Marlen Reusser. The 2023 Tour champion Demi Vollering and Reusser could not follow Niewiadoma-Phinney when she broke away about nine kilometers (six miles) from the top of Ventoux. Ventoux is one of the most iconic climbs in cycling with its barren and lunar aspect at the top. The 2024 champion Niewiadoma-Phinney was in tears as she put on the yellow jersey and now leads Vollering by 15 seconds and Reusser by 39 with two stages left.

BKN--CAVALIERS-HARDEN-CHARGE DISMISSED
Misdemeanor gun charge against James Harden dismissed by Texas judge
SUMMARY: A misdemeanor gun charge against All-Star Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden in Texas has been dismissed after he completed an alternative resolution program allowing him to avoid a criminal record. Court records show that a Harris County criminal court judge in Houston dismissed the charge Thursday at the request of the Harris County district attorney’s office following Harden’s completion of an alternative resolution program. Such programs allow defendants to avoid a criminal conviction by doing community service, but court documents don’t detail the terms of Harden’s agreement. Harden was arrested June 13 in Houston after police found that he had a handgun in his vehicle in plain view.

A record-setting, three-year contract not only made Gibbs the highest-paid running back in NFL history, but also ended a stressful wait that had kept him off the practice field. The extension, agreed to Thursday, is worth $67.5 million over three years and could reach $75.75 million with incentives. It includes $51.5 million in guaranteed money, according to multiple reports, surpassing the deal Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson signed earlier this week.
