OLY--SKI-VONN’S LEGACY

Lindsey Vonn’s legend was built on pushing the limits. Her brief time in Cortina was no different

SUMMARY: Lindsey Vonn’s quest for an Olympic gold at age 41 came after years of building her legacy on a combination of perseverance, risk and staying true to herself. She held close to all three in the run-up to the 2026 Winter Games. She leaned into it when she stepped into the starting gate for the women’s downhill in Cortina. Vonn crashed just 13 seconds into her run after clipping a gate, which is always part of the risk when you are searching for every ounce of speed you can get.

NBA says Sengun will be the injury replacement for Gilgeous-Alexander at the All-Star Game

The All-Star Game takes place on February 15 at the Los Angeles Clippers’ home in Inglewood, California. Silver also added the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard to the roster last week to meet the required number of U.S. players. GLF--EUROPEAN TOUR

Reed wins Qatar Masters. He completes torrid Middle East swing with highest world ranking since 2021

SUMMARY: Patrick Reed returns home with a major career change and two European tour victories. The American won for the second time in three weeks. He shot 70 to win the Qatar Masters. That goes along with his big win in the Dubai Desert Classic two weeks ago. In between was a playoff lost in Bahrain. And in the midst of all that the former Masters champion announced he had not renewed his LIV Golf contract, chose to leave the Saudi-funded league and wants back on the PGA Tour. Reed is all but assured a full card for 2027.

Breezy Johnson’s winding road leads to Olympic downhill gold for US on day marred by Vonn’s crash

SUMMARY: Breezy Johnson has won Olympic gold in downhill skiing, overcoming a challenging journey marked by injuries and setbacks. On Sunday, she secured victory at the Milan Cortina Games, edging Germany’s Emma Aicher by just 0.04 seconds. OLY--SBD-PARALLEL GIANT SLALOM

Ledecka’s quest for Olympic three-peat comes to a shocking halt but a Czech gets the gold anyway

SUMMARY: Ester Ledecka’s quest to become the first snowboarder to win gold medals in three straight Olympics came to a surprisingly early end. She lost her quarterfinal race in the sport’s parallel giant slalom by 0.06 seconds to Austria’s Sabine Payer. The 30-year-old Ledecka was a big favorite. She hadn’t lost a PGS World Cup race in almost two years and hadn’t missed a podium in five. Ledecka made history in 2018 when she became the first athlete to win a snowboard race and one on skis at the same Olympics. Fellow Czech Zuzana Maderova took gold for the women, and Austria’s Benjamin Karl for the men.

US--SUPER BOWL-ADS

Super Bowl ads try to overcome tough times with health, caring and the usual laughs

SUMMARY: At a difficult time for America, Super Bowl advertisers are asking viewers to take care of themselves and others — and maybe even crack a smile. Ring shows how neighbors can use their doorbell cameras to find lost pets. A Budweiser Clydesdale protects a bald eagle chick from the rain. Novartis touts a blood test that can detect prostate cancer. Toyota reminds viewers to wear their seatbelts. Two ads feature songs from Mister Rogers. Health care is a big theme, with Novo Nordisk and Ro promoting GLP-1s. And tech companies like Meta, Anthropic and Amazon are all in on AI.

FBN--SUPER BOWL

Drake Maye and the Patriots take on Sam Darnold and the Seahawks in Super Bowl 60

SUMMARY: It’s almost time to crown an NFL champion. After two weeks of hype and anticipation, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will face off in Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium. Will Drake Maye and the Patriots capture their seventh Lombardi Trophy? Or will Sam Darnold and the Seahawks earn their second? The matchup features two stingy defenses, two balanced offenses and two quarterbacks who’ve taken vastly different routes to get here. The Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the NFL and have standout players at every level. The Patriots got here because their defense has been dominant in the playoffs.

OLY--FIG-MUSIC PROBLEMS

Russian skater Petr Gumennik becomes latest Olympian to change music due to copyright issues

SUMMARY: Russian figure skater Petr Gumennik has been forced to change his short program music just two days before the men’s competition at the Milan Cortina Olympics. He had been using music from “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” but discovered he lacked the proper permissions. With limited time, he couldn’t get clearance for his previous season’s music from “Dune” and switched to “Waltz 1805” by Edgar Hakobyan. The men’s competition begins Tuesday. Copyright issues have become a significant problem in figure skating after the International Skating Union relaxed its rules in 2014, allowing more modern music. Several problems have occurred in the first week of the Milan Cortina Olympics.
