Berlin Philharmonic planning to vacate Philharmonie for renovation from 2032-40

NEW YORK (AP) — Kirill Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic face a big challenge. Renovations planned for their home, the Philharmonie, likely will displace the orchestra from 2032 to 2040. Petrenko, the chief conductor, says it will be difficult to play elsewhere because of the unique sound of the Philharmonie, which opened in 1963. The orchestra is considering a temporary move to Tempelhof Airport hangars. The renovation and makeshift hall are estimated to cost 1.15 billion euros, with the German government pledging up to 225 million euros. Plans are to relocate from the Philharmonie after celebrating the orchestra’s 150th anniversary during the first half of 2032.

Movie Review: ‘You Can See Everything’ shows Elizabeth Holmes through Nathan Fielder’s singular lens

Thirty-four days before Elizabeth Holmes was due to start her 11-year prison sentence, she and partner Billy Evans invited a film crew into their home. They wanted to show the public the real Holmes, claiming previous portrayals of the disgraced Theranos CEO were inaccurate. Comedian Nathan Fielder co-directed the resulting film, “You Can See Everything,” which opens in theaters Friday. In her review for The Associated Press, film writer Lindsey Bahr writes that it is part-performance art, part-documentary, and wholly unique. Holmes maintains her innocence, insisting she never lied. The film explores her enigmatic nature and her relationship with Evans. It’s a fascinating, confounding piece that challenges perceptions and expectations.

Tensions with the royal family have eased recently, and Harry has expressed a desire for reconciliation. The couple and their children are reportedly living in the Cotswolds.

NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for the BBC say that President Donald Trump is trying to delay sitting for a deposition in the defamation case he brought against the British broadcaster until January 2027. In a filing this week, they asked a Florida court to compel the president to appear in the $10 billion case after they say he canceled an agreed-upon date this week, citing “matters of national importance.” Trump, who has a history of avoiding depositions, filed the lawsuit against the BBC last December, seeking $10 billion in damages.

Movie Review: Rom-com or sib-com? Sisterhood rules in a 21st-century take on ‘Sense and Sensibility’

Three decades after the Ang Lee-Emma Thompson version, a new adaptation of “Sense and Sensibility” is at hand. This time, the Jane Austen classic stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as the no-nonsense Elinor and Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne, her turbulent sister. Did we need a new version? Associated Press critic Jocelyn Noveck writes that director Georgia Oakley makes a good case for her 21st-century take by shifting the focus from romance to sisterhood, with the sibling connection forming the real heart of the story. The film features strong performances all around, and delights with engaging dance scenes and a focus on the natural world. Opens Friday in theaters.

Meet the new Dashwoods: Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles star in ‘Sense and Sensibility’

Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Elinor Dashwood in a new “Sense and Sensibility” adaptation directed by Georgia Oakley. This marks the first major adaptation of the Jane Austen novel directed by a woman. Edgar-Jones highlights the importance of the sisterly bond in the film, which she shares with co-star Esmé Creed-Miles. The two actors previously worked together, enhancing their onscreen chemistry. Oakley aims for a more authentic and earthy portrayal of the characters, drawing inspiration from films like “Wuthering Heights.” Creed-Miles, who has diverse interests beyond acting, hopes the film reaches both Austen fans and newcomers.
