CAMBRIDGE - Anthony Paul "Tony" Mowery, 49, died late Wednesday night, March 14, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 1, 1958, in Cambridge, he was the son of Michael Mowery of Fishing Creek and Josephine Cook Saulsbury of Cambridge. At a young age, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America.

Tony was educated in Dorchester and graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1976. He was a member of the high school wrestling team. After graduation, he became a high school wrestling coach.

On Nov. 30, 1985, he married the former Julie Ann Crowley.

Mr. Mowery worked for Wise Oil and Fuel Inc. and Service Today Inc. as an HVAC specialist for more than 20 years. In 1980 he worked as manager for the summer program at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Church Creek.

Mr. Mowery was a collector of Indian arrowheads, artifacts and a collector of coins, stamps and sports memorabilia.

He was also an artist and wood carver. He was a historian at heart and could answer any questions correctly on history or geography.

He was a dedicated Baltimore Ravens football fan and Baltimore Orioles baseball fan. He enjoyed bowling and had played baseball and slow pitch softball. Mr. Mowery enjoyed country rides and appreciated the gift of nature. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time at Guinea Island with good friend Smitty Rue. He also enjoyed going to Handley and Bolingbroke beaches with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his friend Norval Pritchett, Jr.

He fought terminal illness for more than 10 years.

In addition to his parents and Julie C. Mowery, his wife of 21 years, Mr. Mowery is survived by two children, Alison Mowery and Gavin Mowery of Cambridge; a stepmother, Joyce Mowery of Fishing Creek; a brother, Joseph Mowery of Cambridge; two sisters, Georgette Fox and her husband, Fred of Somerspoint, N.J., Charlotte Elzey and her husband, Mike of Cambridge; a brother-in-law, Danny Travers of East New Market; and his two hound dogs, Junior and Jackson.

Preceding him in death was his friend and father-in-law, Robert Eugene Crowley, who died Oct. 20, 2006, and his mother-in-law, Theresa Ann Crowley, who died just three hours before him. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Diana Travers.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Walter E. Reuschling. Inurnment will be held privately.
