CAMBRIDGE - Alvia Meekins Jr., age 46, of Cambridge, died early Monday morning, April 11, 2011, at University of Maryland Hospital. Born on May 22, 1964, in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Alvin Meekins and Frances Lewis Meekins. Alvia was a graduate of Cambridge South Dorchester High School, Class of 1982. Alvia enjoyed crafts. He liked to carve boats and animal figurines. Surviving are two sisters, Irmalee Loggins of S.C., Helen Hubbard and her husband Allen of Cambridge; a special friend, Patty Ekstrom of Arkansas; three nephews, Jonathan Meekins and his wife Stacy, Willie Loggins and Michael Loggins; a niece, Misty Hubbard; three great-nephews, DJ Loggins, Scottie Meekins, Logan Meekins; a great-niece, Trinity Meekins; and his faithful friendly cat, Gizmo. A memorial service was 1 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at The Salvation Army Church, 200 Washington St., Cambridge, officiated by Major Lori Gilliam. Memorial offerings may be made in Alvia's memory to The Salvation Army, 200 Washington St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
