Allen Asbury United Methodist Church in Allen will hold its Fall Festival and Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Allen Community Hall on Collins Wharf Road in Allen just past the church.

Please the church members and others for fried oyster sandwiches, homemade vegetable beef, bean, and chicken soups, chicken salad sandwiches, Maryland beaten biscuits and sweet potato biscuits, hot dogs, and platters with green beans, homemade dumplings, roll, and choice of chicken salad or oyster fritter.

There will be a Make and Take Table with children’s activities, and local vendors with beaded jewelry, chocolates, leather goods, knife sharpening, homemade soaps, plants and flowers, produce, baked goods, and more.

The cooks of Allen are baking and canning many delicious homemade foods for the bazaar. You can also bring your old, dull knives to be sharpened while you shop and eat.

There will be an outdoor yard sale, weather permitting, opening at 9 a.m. as well.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will support the church’s outreach to the Christian Shelter.

It’s time to order those famous Rockawalkin pies

Rockawalkin’s famous sweet potato, apple, and cherry pies are back.

Let the community group help add the best possible final touch to your Thanksgiving feast.

Again this year they are baking sweet potato (without or without lemon and coconut) as well as apple and cherry pies.

The sweet potato pies are $9 each and the apple and cherry pies are $12 each.

You will be able to pick up your pies on Monday, Nov. 23, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Rockawalkin Community Hall, located at 6772 Rockawalkin Road near Hebron.

Allen Civil War historical event scheduled Oct. 25

On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Allen Historical Society will present an original play, written by its members, about the Civil War period in Allen.

The event will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.

The play features historically accurate events which occurred in Allen and the surrounding areas, and characters are based on actual residents of the village.

The play will be held at 7 p.m. in Allen Asbury Methodist Church on Collins Wharf Road.

This church  sanctuary served the community during the Civil War and continues to be used by the current congregation.

Following the play, a variety of desserts made from Civil War recipes will be served.

Paddle Partnership River Clean Up is Oct. 24

What better way to clean up our local waterway than to grab a net and a trash bag ... hop on a canoe/kayak and start paddling?

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Environmental Studies Department at Salisbury University and the Salisbury City Public Works will be hosting an On-The-Water River Paddle Clean Up as part of an initiative ignited by the Beautification/Environmental Affairs Committee.

The event is Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. Launching and docking will occur at the Riverside Boat Ramp.

“Networking” will follow at Brew River after 4 p.m.
