On Sunday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Allen Community Hall on Collins Wharf Road, the Allen Lions Club will hold its annual Pit Beef Dinner.
The Allen Lions have held this dinner every year since 1959, the year the club was founded -- so this is the 60th year.
More than a half-ton of top quality beef, coated with a secret assortment of seasonings, is cooked overnight over glowing wood coals in brick-lined underground pits.
Side dishes -- gravy, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, stewed tomatoes and turnips -- are homemade with ingredients mostly from local farms and according to old family recipes used since 1959.
The local Scout Troop will be selling desserts.
Service in the dining room in the Community Hall is all-you-can eat. Take-outs are available at the drive-up window.
Pre-sold tickets are $18 for adults; $10 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free. Adult tickets are $20 at the door. Tickets are limited.
Proceeds benefit the many charitable activities of the Allen Lions. Call 410-546-2043 for more information or tickets.
