About eight years after a sign was erected announcing a new Royal Farms was “coming soon,” and three years after a new traffic light was hung at Pemberton Drive, the store is being built.
“It’s finally getting under way. It’s great to see the sign will come down and the Royal Farms will go up,” said Craig Schury, owner of Pemberton Pharmacy and Gifts nearby.
Schury was involved in bringing the new light to the intersection of Pemberton Drive and Parsons Street, and said it was necessary because of heavier traffic in that area, due to growth on the west side.
“I’m ecstatic this Royal Farms is coming. Construction is probably going to take about six months before it will open. It should be really great for this area and will provide another option as far as gas and convenience,” he said.
The new store will be a concept store “slightly different in size and with a different style structural awning,” said Ed Stronski, marketing manager for Royal Farms in the Baltimore office.
He said the 4,166-square-foot facility will open in the spring of 2015, be available 24 hours every day and employ 40 people.
It will be the fifth Royal Farms in Salisbury. The others are at 901 Snow Hill Road, 1401 South Division Street, 101 North Salisbury Avenue and 7900 Royalty Way.
“Salisbury have been very receptive to Royal Farms and we look forward to building one of our new concept stores there for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
Based in Maryland, Royal Farms’ first store opened in 1959 and there are now 160 locations throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
“We’re known for our world-famous Royal Farms chicken and our hand-cut western fries, as well as for our made-to-order subs, wraps, anytime breakfast sandwiches and chewy ice, Stronski said.
