A. Eugene Wingate

A. Eugene Wingate, 78

CAMBRIDGE - A. Eugene Wingate, 78, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

He was born in Cambridge on Dec. 3, 1929 and was a son of the late Mitchell Grant and Leila Laura Johnson Wingate.

Mr. Wingate graduated from Cambridge High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan for 18 months.

For a number of years he worked as a machinist for Nelson Jones Machine Shop. When the shop closed, Mr. Wingate retired.

Mr. Wingate was a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion, and he enjoyed woodworking. He had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center since August of 2006 when he passed away on Tuesday evening.

Survivors include two uncles, Webster Johnson and Whitey Johnson, both of Cambridge, and several cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. Kathryn Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
