WYOMING –– Every year, the first Saturday in August is reserved for a special tradition, the annual Wyoming Peach Festival.

The festival begin at 9 a.m. with a parade down Camden-Wyoming Ave. from Fifer Middle School to W. Third Street featuring the Dover High School Rolling Thunder Drum Line, the Peach Festival Band, the Milford Community Band and costumed characters.

“The parade is a big part of the festival, and a lot of people come to see it,” said Jackie Stokes, coordinator of the festival.

Live entertainment will be performed on the railroad platform from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The acts scheduled include the First State Harmonizers, a puppeteer, Jack Foraker, Louder Than Words and Yoon’s Martial Arts.

At the conclusion of the performances, the winner of the Peach Dessert Contest will be announced. The wide range of treats will be scored beginning at noon and judged based on taste and presentation.

Throughout the festival, vendors will line Railroad Ave. and Southern Blvd. selling crafts, food and drinks until the festival wraps up around 3 p.m.

“This year, we are excited about some new vendors,” Ms. Stokes said. “We have new potters, jewelers and leather workers. I think we will have a really good mix of vendors this year.”

Parking is available at W.B Simpson Elementary and Wyoming United Methodist Church. Handicapped parking is at Pippin Funeral Home.

Proceeds from the Peach Festival pay for the Wyoming monthly newsletter. In the past, addition proceeds have funded flag poles for the corner of Camden Wyoming Ave. and Railroad Ave., landscaping of Stokes Square, a sound system for use by the Town and the Peach Festival, plantings at the Wyoming Park, a new server for Town Hall’s computers, updated electric on the freight platform. Donations have also been made to the Caesar Rodney High School Earth Club and the W. B. Simpson Elementary School PTO.

Peach Ice Cream Day

Saturday in Wyoming will also play host to Fifer Orchards’ 35th Annual Customer Appreciation Day, better known as Peach Ice Cream Day.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature complimentary fresh peach ice cream with all donations going to local 4-H and FFA chapters.

Before getting to the ice cream, there will be plenty of lunch options from local restaurants and food trucks like Meat Mechanics BBQ, Nage Restaurant, Mojo Loco, Taco Reho and Wildwich.

Local products will also be for sale at the farm like Dominion Brewery Root Beer and Ginger Ale, Amity Coffee, Yum Yum Sweets & Treats cupcakes, Gage Family Honey, Tammy’s Pickles, Backyard Jams and Jellies and Waggies by Maggie locally made dog treats.

Free entertainment will start up at 10 a.m. Free Range (Bluegrass), Miss Jackie (Children’s songs and stories), Peach Queen and Princess Crowning Ceremony and Man About a Horse (Bluegrass).

For the kids there are loads of activities for a small fee such as hayrides around the farm, barrel train rides, pony rides, a farm animal exhibit, face painting and a bounce houses.

Parking is available on grass lots at the farm. Parking attendants will be directing cars from Allabands Mill Road.
