The Henlopen Conference Northern Division wrestling title will be on the line Friday night in Georgetown.

Smyrna High travels to Sussex Central High at 6 p.m. in a matchup of two unbeaten teams against in-state competition this year. Both squads are also 4-0 in the Henlopen North.

Coach Kurt Howell’s Smyrna team has earned the last three Henlopen North titles, as well as the last three Division I state championships. Sussex Central last won the Henlopen North in 2011.

That 2011 season was also the last time the Golden Knights defeated Smyrna. The Eagles have won the last four meetings, including a 59-6 result a year ago.

Smyrna leads the all-time series against Sussex Central 31-25.

Senators on winning streak

Dover downed Lake Forest 54-27 in a dual meet on Wednesday to earn its fourth consecutive victory. The Senators improved to 5-3 on the season.

Recording pins for Dover were Noah Ogbin (113 pounds), Tykwan Joyner (120), Taqee Williams (126), Anthony Fisher (132), Nicholas Lee (138), Divine Watkins (145), Daimere Wilson-Turner (160) and Azim Opare (170).

The Senators visit Caesar Rodney at 7 p.m. Friday in a key Henlopen North clash. Dover is 1-3 against Henlopen North teams while Caesar Rodney is 3-1 (6-2 overall).

Canal Classic

Polytech had four individual winners and earned the team title at the Middletown Canal Classic this past weekend. Dover had one champion and finished second, 40 points behind the Panthers, who topped the eight-team field with 194 points.

Spenser Hahn (113), Avery Mayan (170), Vincent Tascione (182) and Justin Land (195) won their weight classes for Polytech.

Dover’s winner was Tyler Rosello at 285 pounds. The other local champion was Delmar’s Daniel Smullen at 220 pounds.

Bonus points

• Polytech will host its annual NOVICE Wrestling Championships on Feb. 14. This is a tournament for novice wrestlers trying to gain confidence in the sport and is open to wrestlers age 4- 13. Walk-ins are welcome and applications can be requested by contacting Eric Buckson at eric.buckson@polytech.k12.de.us.

• Smyrna will recognize its 1996 state dual meet championship team, individual state champions and previous head coaches at 6 p.m Friday, Feb. 12. The varsity will wrestle Cape Henlopen at 7 p.m.

There will be memorabilia, T-shirts for sale and a copy of the Smyrna record book. Barry Meeks, the second coach in Smyrna history who currently lives in Kentucky, will be in attendance.

• Milford’s loss to Cape Henlopen on Wednesday marked the first time the Buccaneers fell to a Delaware opponent who wasn’t Smryna since Feb. 5, 2014, which was also Cape Henlopen.

• Indian River only won three matches against Sussex Central on Wednesday, but all three were via pins. They were by Mitchell Bolton (113), Jared Arlett (120) and Ezekiel Marcozzi (160).
