Along with host Smyrna, Caesar Rodney, Dover and Indian River are Henlopen Conference teams entered in the competition. A.I. du Pont, Newark, St. Georges, St. Mark’s, Archbishop Curley (Md.), John Carroll (Md.), Malvern Prep (Pa.) and Manheim Township (Pa.) are also slated to participate.

Coach Kurt Howell’s Eagles are coming off a weekend performance where they went 3-2 at the Virginia Duals, hosted in Hampton, Va.

The tournament was highlighted by Smyrna’s second victory this season over Baltimore’s McDonogh. The Eagles also defeated Ocean Lakes (Va.) and Independence (W. Va.) before falling in the consolation semifinals of the 16-team tournament to Colonial Forge (Va.).

Golden Knights on a roll

Sussex Central defeated Dover on Wednesday night 47-16 to win its fourth straight dual meet to start the season. The Golden Knights are 3-0 in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division.

Rashad Stratton (126 pounds), Justin Bennett (145) and Michael Wright (182) recorded pins for the Golden Knights.

That means there are three remaining unbeaten teams in the Henlopen North — Sussex Central, Smyrna (2-0 North, 7-2 overall) and Caesar Rodney (2-0, 2-1).

The Golden Knights also topped the field at the Delcastle Invitational last weekend with 288 points. Salesianum came in second with 184.

Stratton (126), Bennett (145), Brandon Bautista (152)  and John Morris (195) won their individual weight classes.

Bonus points

• Smyrna’s Kalen Wilson won the 100th match of his career this past weekend.

• Polytech finished sixth at the Delcastle Invitational. Individual winners for the Panthers were Austin Price (106) and Avery Mayan (170).

• Sussex Central, Sussex Tech, Milford and Woodbridge will compete in the War on the Shore tournament this weekend hosted by Stephen Decatur (Md.). The two-day event kicks off today at 3:30 p.m. with the first round of 32 teams. The championship round is scheduled for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

• Cape Henlopen is entered in the Grapple at the Brook Invitational in Springbrook, Md. this weekend.

• Milford remained unbeaten this season with a 70-12 dual meet victory over Delmar on Wednesday. The Buccaneers are 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Henlopen South.
