MILFORD — A 65-year-old South Carolina man was apprehended quickly and later charged after allegedly trying to rob a bank Wednesday morning, police said.
According to the Milford Police Department, Peter A. Harrison, of the 200 block of State Pond Road in Gaston, S.C., allegedly entered Artisans Bank and demanded $100 bills from an employee.
Authorities said he wasn’t in the bank at 100 Aerenson Drive to make a transaction and repeated the demand for money several times.
At one point, Milford Police spokesman Detective Dwight Young said an employee told Mr. Harrison to take his hat off, which he initially refused to do before complying.
Mr. Harrison used profane language and gestured obscenely toward bank employees. He then fled the bank without any money, police said.
Shortly afterward, police said, Mr. Harrison was apprehended by officers in the parking lot of a convenience store.
According to detectives, he also allegedly referenced killing one of the employees.
Police said the incident occurred at 9:24 a.m. Police arrived within minutes after being notified by the bank.
Detective Young couldn’t confirm whether surveillance video was available.
Mr. Harrison was charged with second-degree attempted robbery, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening.
After arraignment through JP Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach, he was held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of $6,500 secured bail.
Detective Young said he did not know why Mr. Harrison was in Delaware. He said the man indicated that he travels.
No weapons were involved, police said. A couple customers in the bank when the alleged incident unfolded were never in any danger.
