ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State won its third straight game, topping Delaware State 30-3 in a MEAC contest at Oliver Dawson Stadium on Saturday.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC, while the Hornets are winless in seven games this season, including four league contests.

South Carolina State’s defense allowed just 151 total yards and Bishop Ford rushed for 106 yards to highlight the Bulldogs’ win.

SC State opened the scoring with a touchdown on the game’s first possession when the Bulldogs executed a “double pass.” Quarterback Adrian Kollack threw the ball behind the line-of-scrimmage to Dewann Ford, who threw back to Kollack for a 14-yard touchdown. Tyler Scandrett’s extra point kick gave the hosts a 7-0 lead with 12:56 left in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 10-0 on a 25-yard field goal by Scandrett early in the second quarter,.

SC State took advantage of good starting field position to score their second touchdown.

Starting at the DSU 44 after  a punt, the Bulldogs need six plays to reach the endzone. Dondre Brown capped off the drive with a three-yard touchdown run with 9:09 left in the second quarter.

Scandrett booted his second field goal of the game and Caleb York connected with a De’Mo Burroughs on a 41-yard touchdown pass to give SC State a 27-0 lead.

The Hornets drove 58 yards to the South Carolina State eight-yard line late in the second quarter, but had to settle for a 34-yard field goal by Wisdom Nzidee to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 27-3 with 14 seconds to go before the half.

SC State’s Scandrett kicked his third field goal of the game, a 22-yarder with 12:16 left to play, for the only scoring of the second half.

Delaware State managed just 60 yards rushing and 91 through the air. The Bulldogs totaled 383 yards, 198 by the pass and 185 on the ground.

DSU freshman linebacker Brian Cavicante led all players with 13 tackles, including seven solo stops and, while fellow linebacker Malik Harris had 12 tackles, four behind the line-of-scrimmage.

DSU will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 29) with a MEAC contest against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The next Hornet home game is Nov. 5 against North Carolina Central (2 p.m.).
