DOVER — The two teams were constructed differently, but it was still a clean sweep for the White teams at the Blue-White senior all-star lacrosse game.

Evelyn Shoop of Cape Henlopen High scored in overtime to give White a 9-8 win in the girls’ game before Caesar Rodney High’s Jacob Copio had a hat-trick to pace the White to a 12-9 victory in the boys’ contest.

The girls’ teams were divided randomly while the boys followed the traditional Blue represents the Northern schools and White the Southern schools method.

Copio was one of three Caesar Rodney players to score in the boys’ game. Midfielder Jacob Pangle had a pair of goals while defender Jacob Mollohan added a goal.

“Three goals is pretty cool,” Copio said. “I didn’t know I was going to do that.”

Erik Stankofski of Cape Henlopen scored twice for the White team while his Cape teammate Holden Kammerer provided a goal and two assists.

“It was a really cool atmosphere,” Copio said. “We butt heads with all these guys during the regular season and then we all come together here and we’re all friends.”

Cape Henlopen had a standout game in the girls’ contest too.

Not only did Shoop score the winner, she netted three goals. Cape’s Katie Klabe also had a hat-trick and Cailey Thornburg scored twice.

The White won despite trailing 4-0 at halftime.

“We definitely needed that halftime to settle down and figure out what we needed to change,” Shoop said. “We went out more relaxed in the second half and got our rhythm.”

Madi Bada of Sussex Tech also scored for the White team.

Two downstaters found the back of the net for the Blue squad.

Indian River’s Lexi Haden had two goals and Polytech’s Grace Stang scored one. Caravel’s Olivia Duarte scored the most goals on the night with four for the Blue girls.

Klabe tied the game 7-7 with 2:40 left in the second half before Shoop gave White its first lead of the night at 8-7 with 1:07 left.

But Duarte forced overtime with a tally with 35 seconds remaining.

Shoop needed just 36 seconds of overtime to score the winner. She found open space on a breakaway and was able to get an open shot off.

“I was going to pull it out at first,” Shoop said. “But they didn’t crash as hard as I thought they would. So I just took my lane.”
