Joe Callahan is getting quite the whirlwind tour of the NFL.

A week after being released by the Packers and signed by the Saints, the former Wesley College quarterback was released by the Saints and picked up the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns got a close look at Callahan in a preseason game this summer. The undrafted rookie free agents completed 16-of-23 passes for 124 yards with a touchdown against Cleveland.

Of course, the Browns are known for their QB issues. They’ve used six quarterbacks in seven games this season and 27 different QBs since 1999.

Cleveland’s week one starter, Robert Griffin III, and second-stringer Josh McCown are both out with significant shoulder injuries, rookie Cody Kessler is still going through the NFL’s concussion protocol and free agent signee Charlie Whitehurst went down with a knee injury.

Cleveland was forced to turn to Kevin Hogan in their week seven contest.

According to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo, the Saints found themselves in the same predicament the Packers did a week ago: They wanted to keep Callahan, but needed the roster space to sure up other positions on their depth chart.

According to several reports, multiple teams placed claims on Callahan after he was waived by the Saints. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter and Green Bay Packers beat writer Tom Silverstein reported that he assumed the Packers put in a claim to get Callahan back, and confirmed that the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals each put in claims on Callahan the first time he was released and claimed by New Orleans.

Callahan’s biggest problem on Monday was reportedly booking a flight to Cleveland, where the Indians were hosting the Cubs in the first game of the World Series on Tuesday.
