The Wesley College men’s basketball team nearly pulled off its second upset of a top-five team on Sunday.

But the Wolverines fell on a buzzer-beater, 94-92, to No. 4 Catholic in a nonconference matchup.

On Wesley’s final offensive possession, Rasahn Brinkley tied the game at 92-92 when he scored off an offensive rebound with 14 seconds left.

But Catholic’s Bryson Fonville broke Wesley’s press and hit a 17-foot pull-up jumper for the go-ahead score with 0.8 seconds remaining. The Wolverines couldn’t muster a basket and fell to the fourth-ranked Cardinals.

Wayne Lennon finished with 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists for Wesley (1-3) while Anthony Bowers added 19 points and five assists. Brinkley finished with 21 points and nine rebounds while J.W. Lawson and Evan Anderson contributed double-digit points off the bench, scoring 11 and 10 respectively. The Wesley bench outscored the Catholic bench 42-6.

Catholic held a 16-point lead with just under four minutes to go. But Brinkley led the Wolverines’ comeback, scoring 15 of their final 18 points,

San Francisco 67, Delaware State 47: After trailing 25-23 at intermission, the Dons shot 61.5 percent from the field in the second half and held the Hornets to just 12 points over the last 13 minutes of the game to pull away.

Delaware State (0-7) remains winless on the season.

Sophomore guard Devin Watson led all scorers with 18 points while senior Tim Derksen added 14 to pace USF’s scorers.

DeAndre Hayward scored 11 points to lead the Hornets, with all of his points coming in the first half. USF ended the game shooting 47.3 percent from the floor while the Hornets managed to shoot 33.3 percent, including an icy 28.6 percent in the second half.

WOMEN, Delaware 62, North Dakota State 50: Junior Hannah Jardine hit a career-high five three-pointers en route to 23 points as she led the Blue Hens to a win in their final game of the San Diego State Thanksgiving Classic.

Jardine came into the game with a total of 24 points and six treys through four games. But she shot 9-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc, for her 23 points.

The forward added seven rebounds, one assist, one blocked shot and one steal in 35 minutes for Delaware (3-2).

Junior Erika Brown added 15 points and six assists while freshman Hannah Friend posted a season-best game with 10 points, two rebounds and a blocked shot. Friend was perfect from the floor, registering totals of 2-for-2 from the field (both 3-pointers) and 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Arcadia 62, Wesley 55: Brionna Johnson (Smyrna) finished with 13 points to lead the Wesley offense and pulled in seven rebounds while Monshea Newsome-Murray (Seaford) grabbed eight boards and scored seven in the Wolverines’ loss.

Tiyanna Gibbs added 10 points and five rebounds for the Wolverines (1-4) as they fell to their fourth straight defeat.
