DOVER — Delaware State Police have charged Jeremiah Sandquist, 31, of Hartly, with multiple felonies after being wanted for incidents of burglary and assault that occurred during the last three months.
According to police, the first offense occurred on Sept. 21. At about 8:45 p.m., troopers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Judith Road, Hartly, for a suspected burglary. The investigation determined Mr. Sandquist had an argument with a female outside of the residence.
The 59-year-old victim, who is a neighbor, yelled for Mr. Sandquist to get off of her property. Police say he then charged after the victim, so she locked the door to her residence. Mr. Sandquist allegedly forced entry into the home, and began choking her.
During the assault, the victim attempted to call police but was unable to do so after Mr. Sandquist pulled a knife and threatened her, police say. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.
At about 4:27 p.m. Nov. 7, troopers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Judith Road, Hartly, for an alleged assault. A DSP investigation determined Mr. Sandquist was in a vehicle with a 33-year-old female acquaintance and, police say, became paranoid after hearing nearby emergency sirens.
Mr. Sandquist allegedly attempted to drag the acquaintance into the residence but was confronted by a second female, age 28, who tried to stop him.
Police say Mr. Sandquist began physically assaulting the 28-year-old victim and slammed her to the ground. After the assault, Mr. Sandquist smashed the windshield of the victim’s vehicle parked at the residence.
The victim was treated at an area hospital for a laceration to the head.
Troopers then responded to Brendford Road, Dover, for a criminal mischief complaint at 12:58 p.m. Dec. 25. DSP’s investigation determined that, in the area of Seeneytown Road and Seven Hickories Road, Mr. Sandquist located a 28-year-old acquaintance and pulled in front of her vehicle at a red traffic light.
Mr. Sandquist allegedly jumped onto the hood of the victim’s vehicle and began jumping up and down. He then used his knee to break the windshield of the vehicle, police say. There was a 1-year-old child in the vehicle at the time.
On Thursday, troopers conducted surveillance and located Mr. Sandquist, who was wanted on numerous warrants out of Troop 3 and Troop 9, standing outside a residence in the 2000 block of Downs Chapel Road, Clayton.
Upon arrival, police say Mr. Sandquist fled into a barn on the property. A perimeter was established around the barn, and troopers ordered Mr. Sandquist out.
He complied and was taken into custody without incident.
Mr. Sandquist was transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with:
• First-degree burglary
• Strangulation
• Second-degree assault
• Malicious interference with emergency communication
• Two counts of criminal mischief under $1,000
• Two counts of criminal mischief over $1,000
• Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child
Mr. Sandquist was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $66,300 secured bail.
