DOVER — Jury selection was conducted Monday for the trial of a Dover man accused of a shooting in the Capital Green neighborhood just over a year ago.

Rakiim A. Strickland is charged with attempted first-degree murder and other counts connected to an incident that left a 19-year-old man wounded on May 15, 2015; he was 25 years old at the time.

Other charges include possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts), criminal mischief greater than $1,000 and first-degree criminal trespass.

The trial is scheduled to start this morning in Kent County Superior Court with Judge Robert B. Young overseeing the proceedings.

According to the Dover Police Department at the time of the alleged incident, officers arrived to find a wounded man seated in the driver’s side of a Dodge Intrepid.

Mr. Strickland, of the 600 block of River Road, was taken into custody on June 4, 2015, in Elkton, Md., and is currently being held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown.

Deputy Attorney General Jason C. Cohee is prosecuting the case for the state, with attorneys Ronald D. Phillips and Julianne E. Murray representing Mr. Strickland.
