Edward Benson III

TOWNSEND — A 37-year-old Townsend man was sought after he failed to appear in New Castle County Court on violation of probation charges, Delaware State Police said Thursday.

Edward Benson III was on probation for a first-degree assault conviction when he allegedly violated his probation on Nov. 14 when arrested on multiple weapons and drug related offenses, spokesman Master Cpl. Michael Austin said. He was scheduled to appear for his probation hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday, police said, but allegedly cut off his ankle bracelet monitoring system prior to the hearing and failed to appear at court.

Mr. Benson was last seen leaving his residence in the 100 block of Esch Street in Townsend in a silver, 2004 Range Rover bearing DE tag PC28310. He was described as a 6-foot, 150-pound black male.

Police asked anyone with information on Mr. Benson’s whereabouts to contact the Governor’s Task Force at Troop 2 by calling 834-2620 or by calling 911. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
