LAUREL — Police arrested a 13-year-old boy soon after he allegedly called in a bomb threat to Laurel High and Middle School on Wednesday morning.

According to Laurel Police Department spokesman Pfc. Chris Story, the threat was believed to be an isolated incident and not connected to a slew of similar calls made against schools statewide.

“This is the first one here (in Laurel),” Pfc. Story said.

The origin of the threatening call was quickly traced, Laurel Police said and a felony charge of terroristic threatening resulted.

The suspect was turned over to the custody of his grandmother.

The youth’s school status was not immediately available, Pfc. Story said.

Police said the call caused an evacuation of the schools until the buildings were deemed to be safe.

Delaware State Police assisted in the investigation.

Regarding the status of the investigation on statewide incidents, State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said, “The incidents are active and ongoing.”
