MIDDLETOWN — Two unidentified suspects are sought after a gunfight in a shopping center parking lot on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Middletown Police spokesman Capt. Michael Iglio said Thursday morning that “We are still working on several leads and obtaining the surveillance video from several businesses in the area,” regarding the incident at the Dove Run Shopping Center on Del. 299.
Witnesses reported that two persons exited their vehicles and exchanged several gunshots at approximately 3:30 p.m. before fleeing, authorities said.
Suspect vehicles were described as a dark colored 2007 Dodge Caliber with tinted windows and a champagne colored 2007 GMC Yukon, both with Delaware registration. Also involved was a dark colored sports utility vehicle which was not immediately identified.
Capt. Iglio said the three vehicles were near an entrance to the shopping center at Brickmill Road. The Yukon and Caliber drivers were in an altercation when shots were fired, police said.
The driver of the Yukon was described as an approximately 6-foot tall black male with a thin build and afro.
No property damage or injuries were reported when police announced the incident several hours afterward on Wednesday. The incident was categorized as “discharging a rifle or other explosive” by police.
Capt. Iglio said more information would be released based on the ongoing status of the investigation. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Det. Julia Fabbroni at 376-9950 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
