HARRINGTON — A 19-year-old Dover man sought after a New Year’s Day shooting turned himself in to police Tuesday night, authorities said.

Accompanied by his mother and her friend, Trequon T. Seth, of the 1400 block of Hopkins Avenue, arrived at the Harrington Police Department at approximately 7 p.m.

Mr. Seth was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and four other felonies in connection with an alleged shooting that wounded a 17-year-old juvenile in the leg in the Lake Forest South Elementary School parking lot.

The wounded youth remained at Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, suffering from apparent non-life threatening injuries, police spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode said.

Police earlier said they were called to the area on a shots fired report at approximately 3:58 p.m. Eighteen shell casings were found at the scene near Dorman Street. No firearm was located, Lt. Brode said.

According to police, a group of eight to 10 persons reportedly arrived as the later-wounded youth and up to 20 persons were playing football at nearby W.T. Chipman Middle School.

A fight ensued, followed by gunshots, authorities said. Suspects fled in a vehicle, police said.

Mr. Seth was identified as a person of interest “by witnesses with a photograph after detectives determined he was a possible suspect,” Lt. Brode said.

No motive for the alleged shooting had been established, Lt. Brode said, though the two groups were apparently familiar with each other. The investigation continued on Wednesday.

Other charges include possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endangering, tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree conspiracy.

Mr. Seth was processed at Harrington PD and arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of $109,000 cash bond.

In connection with the alleged incident, David Brown, 20, of the first block of North Prestwick Court in Dover, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endangering, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and second-degree conspiracy. He was initially held at SCI in default of $70,000 secured bond.
