WOODSIDE — A continuing investigation into an August robbery and stabbing resulted in the arrest of a 57-year-old Maryland man this week, Delaware State Police said Friday.
Thomas A. Lumpkin, of Federalsburg, was charged in connection with an alleged Aug. 24 incident when a 47-year-old Georgetown man was robbed and assaulted after receiving a ride from Maryland to the Dover area, police said.
According to authorities, a passerby made a 911 call to the Kent County Emergency Operations Center on Aug. 24 at approximately 10:30 p.m., reporting a man was standing in the area of Upper King Road and Main Street in Woodside claiming he had been stabbed.
Troopers and EMS responded, police said, and a man was found with a stab wound to his left shoulder.
After transport by EMS to an unidentified local hospital, he was treated and released for a non-life-threatening injury, authorities said.
At the time of the incident, police said investigation could not determine the name of a person who had allegedly assaulted the wounded man.
According to police, the man was stabbed after refusing to give $5 to a driver in the area of South DuPont Highway and Thomas Harmon Drive.
Cash was then taken from his wallet, authorities said.
The ride continued until the Georgetown man was told to exit the vehicle in the area of Upper King Road and Main Street.
He was left there as the driver departed.
Police said detectives linked Mr. Lumpkin to the alleged stabbing and robbery through further investigative measures.
On Wednesday, authorities said, Mr. Lumpkin was arrested by the Federalsburg Police Department as a fugitive; he was transported to Delaware on Thursday and charged with first-degree robbery and assault, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
Mr. Lumpkin was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach.
He was ordered held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $60,000 secured bond.
