DOVER — A 22-year-old man was charged in connection with a fatal shooting near the downtown area on Aug. 18, and awaits extradition from Philadelphia, police said Friday.
Dover Police allege that Quashaun Christy, along with other unknown suspects, illegally entered the apartment of the victim, Emmitt Brown, at approximately 9:34 p.m. with the intent to commit a robbery in the 100 block of S. Queen Street.
Once inside, police said, multiple gunshots were exchanged between the suspects and the occupants of the home. During this exchange, Mr. Brown was mistakenly struck by gunfire in the torso and later died from his injuries.
Arriving officers provided first aid, police said, before Mr. Brown was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. Christy was being held in Pennsylvania after he was taken into custody by the Philadelphia Police at the request of the Dover Police Department on Tuesday.
Mr. Christy is facing charges of home invasion, first-degree robbery and first-degree conspiracy, and has pending charges of reckless endangering and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in a separate indictment, police said.
