DOVER — A 16-year-old Dover High junior was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly threatened via text message to blow up the school with a bomb, police said later in the day.

According to the Dover Police Department, Nicholas L. Shaw sent the message to another student, who notified school personnel at approximately 10:30 a.m. The School Resource Officer quickly located Shaw and took him into custody without incident, according to spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

Police said the school was evacuated as Dover Police officers and a Delaware State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit conducted an hours-long search as a precaution.

The Capital School District opted to dismiss students at 12:30 p.m. as a result of the situation, police said.

The school was cleared of any dangers later in the afternoon and classes are expected to resume as scheduled today, authorities said.

As a result of the incident, the Shaw teen will be charged with terroristic threatening, police said. Bond information was not immediately available.
