• Warm cabins await at great winter rates at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Trap Pond State Park in Laurel and Delaware Seashore State Park just past Rehoboth Beach on Route 1. The perfect place to sit by a fire after a long walk – and several of the Killens Pond cabins have brand-new fire pits, perfect for toasting marshmallows or making s’mores! Information: 302-284-4526 or www.destateparks.com/camping/.

• On Saturdays at Trap Pond State Park in Laurel, take a “Chilly Hayride,” and discover how animals prepare for the winter and beat the chill. Dress warmly for this ride. Just $5 per adult, $3 per child under 12. Information: 302-875-5153 or www.destateparks.com/park/trap-pond/.

• On Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10:15 a.m. at Wilmington’s Brandywine Zoo, “Zoo Kids” from 18 months through six years old can learn about the zoo and its residents through age-appropriate games, crafts, stories, activities and live animal presentations. Pre-registration is recommended.

And just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t meet the animals at the Brandywine Zoo.

The zoo is open year round – and the Red Pandas are so cute! Information: 302-571-7747 or www.brandywinezoo.org.

• Oh yes, it’s cold – but bundle up and head to the beach! Fort Miles, in Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, was a coastal defense facility during World War II. Visit Battery 519 for an underground bunker tour. It’s never cold there and the whole family can have lots of fun learning about Fort Miles’ important role in Delaware history. Information: 302-644-5007 or www.destateparks.com/attractions/fort-miles/.

Delaware’s State Parks offer many other winter activities. Find out more at www.destateparks.com.

In case of inclement weather, calling ahead to check for schedule changes or cancellations is recommended.
