Standout guard Holden leaving Blue Hens

Posted

NEWARK – Much of Delaware’s immediate men’s basketball future looked like it was going to be built around standout sophomore guard Kory Holden.

But now the Blue Hens are not in Holden’s future.

Coach Monte Ross confirmed on Monday afternoon that the sophomore guard has asked for and been granted his release by Delaware for the purpose of transferring, presumably to a bigger program.

Ross declined further comment. The news was first reported on Twitter by Marcus Helton of DMVhoops.

Holden, from Salisbury, Md.’s J.M. Bennett High, was a second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association choice this winter after averaging a team-leading 17.3 points per game. He reached double figures in all but five contests and netted 20 or more 11 times.

The Hens finished just 7-23 this season and placed 10th in the 10-team CAA standings, losing in the first round of the conference tournament.
