Nolan Henderson is staying home.

The All-State quarterback from Smyrna High announced he was committing to the University of Delaware on Wednesday afternoon.

Henderson, a rising senior, helped lead Smyrna to the 2015 Division I state championship. In a statement on his Twitter account, he cited the chance to play in front of his friends and family as one of the reasons he chose UD.

“Representing your home state while playing Division I college football in front of your loved ones is just something I cannot turn down,” Henderson said.

Henderson has started every game at quarterback for Smyrna since the second game of his sophomore season. Last year he passed for 3,297 yards and 36 touchdowns as he guided Smyrna to a 9-1 regular season record, winning the Henlopen Conference Northern Division championship before defeating Salesianum in the state title game in overtime.

Henderson also had offers from Delaware’s Colonial Athletic Association rivals New Hampshire and Albany along with Monmouth.

Henderson is yet another top instate recruit who elected to go to Delaware under coach Dave Brock’s watch.

Brock signed Colby Reeder, an incoming freshman, last season who chose the Blue Hens over a host of FBS programs. Reeder, out of Salesianum School in Wilmington, was named the state’s high school defensive player of the year in 2015. That signing also led to linebacker Troy Reeder, Colby’s older brother who also played at Salesianum, transferring from Penn State to Delaware.

Current UD defensive back Ray Jones also won state Player of Year awards while leading Hodgson to Division II state championships in 2013 and 2014. Delaware wide receiver Jamie Jarmon was the 2011 offensive Player of the Year while at Indian River before he wound up at UD after a few years playing Minor League baseball.
