DOVER — Delaware State Police confirmed that skeletal remains discovered near the Firefly Music Festival grounds on June 15 during the event have been identified.

However, police did not release the name of the deceased.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” said State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier. “Identification was found with the body, although we will not release the identity until the person is positively identified through the Division of Forensic Science.”

Although specific information about the identification is being withheld until the conclusion of the investigation, Mr. Fournier said “family notifications have been made.”

An inquiry sent to the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security on the status of the autopsy had been acknowledged but not answered as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Delaware State Police conducted an initial investigation after the human skeletal remains were located on the night of June 15 in a wooded area near the Firefly Music Festival, which was underway.

Authorities said the following day that a preliminary investigation determined that at approximately 7 p.m., human remains were discovered by a person walking through the wooded area east of Leipsic Road near Marley Lane. According to the Associated Press, the person, who was attending Firefly, contacted troopers and notified them of the discovery. Detectives responded to the wooded area and confirmed the human skeletal remains.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science is assisting with the investigation.
