Timaun Williams and Patrick Griffin each rushed for two touchdowns as Sussex Tech High defeated Indian River, 36-6, on the road in football on Friday night.

Isiah Browns had the final touchdown for the Ravens (2-0) with a 73-yard score in the third quarter.

Montell Phillips had the lone touchdown for the Indians, who dropped to 0-2.

Oakdale (Md.) 48, Cape Henlopen 12: Rasheed Woods ran for a touchdown and caught another from quarterback Dillon Adams as the Vikings fell to a top-ranked team from Maryland.

Woodbridge 42, Polytech 0: The Blue Raiders improved to 2-0 on the season with the shutout victory.

Field hockey

Worcester Prep (Md.) 7, Delmarva Christian 1: Hannah Slacum, on an assist from Diamon Williams, scored Delmarva Christian’s only goal at 6:53 of the second half.

Hailee Arrington scored three goals to lead Worcester Prep.

McKenzie Waide recorded 32 saves for Delmarva Christian (0-2).

Boys’ soccer

Georgetown Prep (Md.) 2, Sussex Tech 1: Joshua Artiga, assisted by Marlon Trejo, scored Sussex Tech’s lone goal at the 28-minute mark of the first half.

Sussex Tech (1-1-1) led in shots 12-9. Ravens goalie Anthony Hitchcock recorded six saves.

Worcester Prep (Md.) 5, Delmarva Christian 1: Josh Vonhof scored the only goal for Delmarva Christian.

Volleyball

Caravel 3, Delmarva Christian 0: Caravel won by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-16.

Leading Delmarva Christian (0-2) were Allie Zitvogel (11 digs), Angela Baker (2 aces, 6 digs) and Olivia Berger (3 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs, 4 assists).

St. Mark’s 3, Smyrna 2: The Spartans won the nonconference match by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 25-14, 15-12.

College field hockey

Hens stay unbeaten: For the first time since the 2007 season and just the third time overall, the University of Delaware field hockey squad has started the year with a 7-0 record after posting a 5-3 win against Bucknell Friday evening at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.

The No. 14 Blue Hens now have the opportunity to set a new school record this Sunday should UD defeat Pacific and open 2015 with eight straight victories.

As has been the case most of the season, senior Michaela Patzner and freshman Lisa Giezeman led Delaware with two goals apiece.

Freshman Sabrina Rhodes added her first-career goal while four Hens dished out assists on the night.

Delaware held a 4-1 lead at the halftime break and went up by as much as 5-1 with just under nine minutes remaining in the game before Bucknell (1-4) capitalized on communication errors from the Blue Hens. The Bison were able to come within two, but UD was able to seal the victory as time expired.

College soccer

WOMEN, Wesley 7, St. Elizabeth 1: Playing its third game in four days, Wesley exploded for seven goals in the win.

Taylor Lynch got the win in her first career start in goal. Lynch played the first half but wasn’t called upon to make a save. Freshman Antonia Pote made three saves in the second half for the Wolverines (3-2-2).

Eight Wolverines earned points, with Janiah Moore and Megan DeFalco leading the way. Moore finished with a goal and an assist while DeFalco added a pair of helpers and was the last Wolverine to touch the ball on a CSE own goal. Kaitlyn Ennis netted her first goal of the season, Lauren Price scored a goal, while Devan Ross and Kayla Ryan each tallied their first career goals. Ryan finished with two scores.

Wesley got on the board in the ninth minute when Summer Stone found Ennis for a goal. The Wolverines followed with another score in the 21st. Samantha Netterman found Janiah Moore to put the Navy and White ahead 2-0. A St. Elizabeth own goal made it 3-0 in the 34th minute, and Ryan netted her two goals in the final five minutes before the halftime whistle. Wesley entered the halftime break with a comfortable 5-0 lead.

Wesley added to the lead in the second half with goals from Lauren Price and Devan Ross. The two tallies made it 7-0 for the Wolverines with just over 23 minutes to play. In the final 10 minutes, CSE scored their only goal of the match. Starting goalkeeper Grace Bailey was sent in as a field player and netted her first goal of the season, the second of her career.

St. Joseph’s tops Hens: Saint Joseph’s scored a goal just 77 seconds into the match and Delaware was never able to recover as the Blue Hens dropped a 2-0 women’s soccer verdict Friday night at SJU’s Sweeney Field.

The Blue Hens (5-4), who were riding a three-game win streak in which they had outscored opponents 10-2, suffered their first loss since a 2-0 setback vs. Georgetown on Sept. 3.

Saint Joseph’s (5-2) won for the fourth time in its last five outings and improved to 3-0-2 vs. Delaware over the last five meetings since the Blue Hens’ downed the Hawks 7-0 in 2007.

Dakota Mills scored both goals for the Hawks as she tallied just 1:17 into the game to give SJU a 1-0 lead and added a second tally just 17:14 into the match. Mills now has five goals on the season.

Hornets fall: In the finale of a season-long four-game homestand, Delaware State (2-6-1) suffered its second consecutive 1-0 loss, this time to the visiting UMBC Retrievers (2-6-1) Friday night at Alumni Stadium.

The Hornets remained winless against UMBC, while Friday night’s win for the Retrievers snapped a four-game slide.

The lone goal occurred early in the first half, when UMBC’s Alexa Quaranta (1) controlled the ball at close range after a shot by forward Amanda Dailey.  As a result, Quaranta – who finished the night with a game-high six shots - fired an attempt past DSU’s Michele Lammers during the 12th minute.

College volleyball

Hens top Morgan, Loyola: Led by the strong play of juniors Autumn Jenkins and Alexa Swann, the Blue Hen volleyball team picked up a pair of three-set victories over Morgan State and Loyola (Md.) during Friday’s home-opening matches at the University of Delaware Invitational.

Delaware, which has won three straight matches while improving to 7-5 on the year, defeated Morgan State 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 in the afternoon before posting a 25-14, 25-7, 25-18 verdict over the Greyhounds in the evening match.

Jenkins recorded 10 kills and 11 digs against the Bears (2-10) to record her fourth double-double of the season, while Swann also had 10 kills while leading all players with five blocks. Lauren Talley set a career-high with eight kills and committed just one error as she hit .412 for the match, while Julia Anderson dished out 29 assists. Ariel Shonk paced the defensive effort with 20 digs, while Taylor Hollingsworth contributed 11of her own.
