Kavon Waller tied a school-record with eight three-point field goals on nine attempts to lead Delaware State to a 92-69 win over Keystone in men’s basketball at Memorial Hall on Saturday.
Waller nailed his first eight three-point shots to tie the team record first set by Marty Bailey during a MEAC Tournament contest on Mar. 7, 2000.
The junior forward had a chance to break the record, but missed his final three-point attempt with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Waller scored a career-high 26 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field in the contest.
The Hornets (3-8) snapped a three-game slide while Division III Keystone fell to 2-4.
Waller’s performance overshadowed standout games by Hornet sophomores DeVaughn Mallory (Polytech) and Devon Morgan.
Mallory recorded his first career double-double, scoring a personal-best 18 points on 9-for-13 shooting and grabbing 13 rebounds, also a career-high.
Morgan also posted his first collegiate double-double, scoring 16 points, highlighted by four three-point field goals, and dishing out a career-high 10 assists.
Waller, Mallory and Morgan combined for 60 of the Hornets’ 92 points. Ten of the 12 players who appeared for DSU scored in the game.
The Hornets set a team record with 15 three-pointers on 30 attempts in the game, smashing the previous record of 14, occurring on three occasions, the last on Feb. 14, 2015.
