Cape Henlopen High built an eight-run lead in the top of the fifth inning before registering a 13-5 victory over Polytech in Henlopen Conference softball on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers pulled within 10-5 before the Vikings capped off the win with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Ryleigh Elliott (3 runs) and Kaniah James had three hits apiece as Cape finished with 11 in the game. The Vikings have won four of their last five games.

Brianna Stevenson had three of Polytech’s 12 hits, Jazlee Rojas added two hits and Kaite Burawski struck out seven.

Lake Forest 10, Laurel 0: Kerrigan Simpson, who struck out seven, and Katie Stahre combined to pitch a five-inning one-hitter for the Spartans.

Grace Aguilar had three of Lake’s 13 hits, Brittany Baker homered and Stahre went 2-for-2.

St. Thomas More 11, Glasgow 5: The Ravens rallied for 10 runs in their last two at-bats to take the win.

St. Mark’s 15, Seaford 6: The Spartans capped off the win with a five-run seventh, finishing with 17 hits.

Indian River 12, Milford 10: The two teams combined for 26 hits in the Henlopen contest on Thursday.

Polytech 6, Cape Henlopen 1: The Panthers broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Chase Rebuck had a two-run single in the outburst. Joey Haas, who struck out eight in five and a third innings, and reliever Louis Whittaker combined on a three-hitter.

Sussex Central 7, Woodbridge 5: The Golden Knights took control with a six-run second inning.

Cade Keller pitched the final six innings to earn the victory.

Gabe Prescott drove in three runs for the Raiders with R.J. Thomas going 3-for-3.

Laurel 8, Lake Forest 0: Preston Hitchens pitched a three-hitter to earn the shutout for the Bulldogs.

Polytech's third baseman Destiny Whaley on a late tag on Cape's Brooke Bunting in the first inning at Polytech on Friday.

Perez Nichols and Holden Deihm had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs while Dalton Perdue and Conor Ellingsworth each drove in two runs.

Middletown 11, Sussex Tech 0: Luke Wootten pitch a five-inning three-hitter to earn the shutout for the Cavaliers, who scored seven runs in the fourth.

St. Mark’s 11, Seaford 0: Juston Gray had a double for the Blue Jays’ only hit of the contest.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Smyrna 12, St. Mark’s 8: Jonathan Guzman tallied four goals with Brian Davis adding three in the Eagles’ nonconference win.

Jacob Jung won 12 of 13 faceoffs with Nathan Williamson making 11 saves for Smyrna, which led 6-3 at halftime.

Archmere 11, Caesar Rodney 8: The Auks outscored the Riders, 4-1, in the third quarter before posting the victory.

Demetrius Stevenson had a team-high three goals for CR (9-2), which had a six-game winning streak snapped. Jacob Copio and Jared Wagenhoffer added two goals and an assist each.

Goalie Tyler Gross made six saves as the Riders were outshot, 27-21.

Dover 16, Delmar 3: The Senators built a 12-1 halftime advantage before picking up the win.

Sussex Tech 19, Sussex Central 8: The Ravens picked up a Henlopen North win on Thursday.

Girls’ soccer

Delmar 10, Seaford 1: Logan Walls had three goals and an assist with Ashlyn Carr adding two goals and a pair of assists in the Wildcats’ Henlopen South win on Thursday.

Seven Delmar players scored in the contest. The Wildcats led 9-0 at halftime.

GIRLS, Dover 12, Sanford 8: Riley McQuaide netted five goals with Mira Prisco adding three in the fifth-straight win for the Senators (7-4).

Britney Miller made seven saves while Grace Gast, Cydney Barnes, Ashley Manifold and Elizabeth Ward all adding one goal apiece.

Polytech 18, Delaware Military 4: Maddie McKay (1 assist) netted seven goals to pace the Panthers to the victory.

MacKenzie Estrada (three assists) and Cam Dennis (2 assists) added three goals each for Polytech, which led 10-2 at halftime. The Panthers held a 36-6 edge in shots.

Girls’ soccer

Sussex Tech 6, Sussex Central 0: Nicolette Phillips tallied a pair of goals for the Ravens in their Henlopen North win.

Rebecca Wheatley, Kira Short and Alexis Singh also scored goals for Sussex Tech, which scored five times in the second half.

Stephanie Lane made 16 saves for the Golden Knights.

College baseball

UNC-Wilmington 13, Delaware 5: The Blue Hens committed seven errors in the Colonial Athletic Association loss.

Delaware (9-6 CAA, 23-16 overall) allowed 11 unearned runs, including three first-inning runs and four in the eighth. Third baseman Diaz Nardo (Cape Henlopen) went 2-4 with a pair of RBI and centerfielder Kevin Mohollen also went 2-4 with two runs scored.

College lacrosse

MEN, Fairfield 11. Delaware 7: Fairfield scored five consecutive fourth-quarter goals to rally for the victory in the final game for Blue Hen coach Bob Shillinglaw.

Delaware, which dropped its fifth straight game following a 13-9 upset of then top-ranked Rutgers on March 25, ends its season at 7-8 overall and 0-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The game marked the final contest on the sideline for Shillinglaw, who ends his 42-year career with a record of 334-319, including a 310-303 mark during his 39 years at Delaware. A two-time USILA National Coach of the Year, Shillinglaw coached more games than any coach in college lacrosse history, while his 334 victories are fourth among active head coaches.

College track & field

Hillman breaks UD mark: Delaware junior thrower Sarah Hillman set a new school record in the discus at the Penn Relays on Friday.

The Polytech High grad finished ninth in the event. Her throw of 52.42 meters broke her own school record she set earlier in the season. Her previous best was 52.28m.
