Sussex Central High won seven of the first eight individual bouts before registering a 47-27 victory over Caesar Rodney in Henlopen Conference Northern Division wrestling on Wednesday night.

After the Riders’ Jackson Dean (138 pounds) opened the match with a first-period pin, the Golden Knights reeled off seven straight wins to open up a 37-6 advantage.

Drew Morris (145), Lucas Hudson (182) and John Morris (220) won by pin for Central in that run, which also included three victories by technical fall. Jevon Saffold (106) added a pin later in the match for the Knights.

CR took four of the night’s final six matches, getting additional pins from Brenden Holder (285), Michael Primo (113) and Cameron Hayes (120).

Milford 52, Laurel 14: The Buccaneers posted four straight pins in one stretch before picking up the Henlopen South victory.

Oscar Rosario (145), Alex Creasey (152), Khiry Hovington (160), Kaje Reynolds (170), Eric Bennett (195), Dominyc Hovington (220) and Bryon Wynes (285) all won by fall for Milford.

Indian River 50, Lake Forest 21: Ta’Jon Knight (126) earned a 14-second pin for the Indians in their Henlopen South victory.

Also winning by fall for IR were William Rayne (113), John Keller (182) and Zeke Marcozzi (195).

Lake Forest got pins from Jake Cale (145), Dean Fleming (152) and Trevor Shivley (160).

Woodbridge 65, Seaford 18: Jerome Cannon (106) posted a 29-second pin for the Raiders in their Henlopen South win.

Also winning by fall for Woodbridge were Gavin Manning (120), Robert Boyer (126), A’Shon Jackson (138), Adam Hardy (145), Jordan James (160), Leon Mann (195) and Hunter Young (220).

An 18-second pin by the Blue Jays’ Elton Joseph (113) was the fastest of the match with Karltay Bennefieid (170) and Noah Webster (285) also picking up pins.

Boys’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 45, Salisbury Christian 31: Josh Vonhof netted 12 points to pace the Royals to the ESIAC win.

Delmarva Christian outscored Salisbury Christian, 16-2, in the third quarter to break the game open.

Girls’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 64, Lake Forest 23: Alissa Haith scored 23 points as the Riders (13-0) remained unbeaten.

CR, which outscored the Spartans 25-5 in the third quarter, also got 17 points from Alexis Reid and 13 from Brionna Brooks.

Mya Maddox netted 13 points to lead Lake Forest.

Laurel 54, Salisbury 29: The Bulldogs outscored Salisbury, 43-16, in the second and third quarters to pull away to the nonconference win.

Logan Handy finished with a game-high 20 points for Laurel (10-1), which won their sixth game in a row.

Salisbury Christian 50, Delmarva Christian 41: Elizabeth Stevens tallied 10 points for the Royals in their conference setback.

College basketball

MEN, Salisbury 70, Wesley 68: Wyatt Smith’s basket with five seconds left broke a 68-68 tie and lifted the No. 17 Sea Gulls to the Capital Athletic Conference win.

Wesley’s Brian Cameron missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Wolverines (4-4 CAC, 6-9 overall) tied the game on Paul Clemmons’ basket with 16 seconds remaining.

The contest featured eight lead changes and seven ties. Wesley led by as many as five while later overcoming a 10-point deficit.

Cameron finished with 27 points, going 4-for-7 from the three-point range, while J.W. Lawson added 15 points for the Wolverines.

WOMEN, Salisbury 97, Wesley 48: Brittney Kerns tallied a team-high 19 points for the Wolverines in their CAC loss.

The Sea Gulls (4-4 CAC, 8-7 overall) opened up a 44-22 halftime lead. Wesley, which dropped to 2-6, 6-9, also got 11 points from Alexus Stroud (11).
