Dalendy Dupervil’s goal in the second overtime gave Sussex Central High a 1-0 victory over Polytech High in a boys’ soccer Henlopen Conference Northern Division match on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Golden Knights clinched the regular season Henlopen North title. They improved to 5-0 in the Henlopen North and 9-1 overall.
It was the first loss of the year for Polytech, who dropped to 9-1 on the season.
Caesar Rodney 3, Cape Henlopen 2: Ricardo Hernandez netted a pair of goals to lift the Riders to the Henlopen North victory.
Jalen Victory added a second half goal for CR. Harold Ayala and Zach Gelof provided the goals for Cape Henlopen.
Sussex Tech 6, Dover 0: Freshman Patrick Short paced the Ravens with four goals in the Henlopen North win.
Michael Barr and Ethan Bender netted a goal apiece in the second half for the Ravens.
Indian River 2, Sussex Academy 1: Wilbert Gomez and Jared Cordoba scored five minutes apart in the second half to lead a Indian River comeback from a one-goal deficit.
Field hockey
Milford 3, Sussex Central 0: Megan Fry, Rajene Bowe and Katelyn Melvin had the goals for the Buccaneers who out-shot Sussex Central 28-3.
Cape Henlopen 2, Polytech 0: Amanda Sponaugle and Jacqueline Cannon each netted a goal in the second half as the Vikings shut out the Panthers.
Lake Forest 10, Seaford 0: Mya Maddox and Zara Collison each recorded a three-goal game in the Spartan victory.
Kaitlyn Stahre added two goals for Lake Forest who also got a goal from Caitlin Records and Julianna Tyndall.
Sussex Tech 5, Caesar Rodney 0: Taylor Wroten, Aleksandra Bada, Morgan Johnson, Jazmyne Marino and Hannah Venables provided the goals in the Sussex Tech shutout.
Volleyball
Smyrna 3, Delmarva Christian 0: Sarah Workman’s 11 kills helped lead the Eagles to their ninth straight victory.
Kylie McCusker also tallied 23 assists for Smyrna (10-2). Set scores were 25-13, 25-10, 25-7.
Polytech 3, Sussex Central 0: The Panthers recorded the Henlopen North win 25-11, 25-8, 25-10.
Sussex Tech 3, Dover 0: The Ravens won in straight sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.
Delmar 3, Woodbridge 0: The Wildcats took the Henlopen North contest 25-9, 25-11, 25-17.
College tennis
Delaware duo to compete at ITA Regional: Senior Tyler Flematti and freshman Laurenz Lankes will represent Delaware men’s tennis this coming weekend at the ITA Northeast Regional, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the Hecht Indoor Tennis Center.
The pair will kick off play Friday in doubles action against Colgate’s Bobby Alter and Noah Rosenblat. The first eight doubles matches will start at approximately 8 a.m. Friday as Delaware is slated to begin once those matches complete.
Flematti and Lankes are 4-1 in doubles action this season and have defeated teams from Wagner, Saint Joseph’s and Niagara.
In his first season playing collegiately, Lankes will also compete on the singles side and will face Marist’s Rudolf Kurz. The singles bracket will not begin play prior to 11 a.m. on Friday.
Flematti previously participated in the ITA Atlantic Regional last season in doubles play alongside Shane Jeffray.
The ITA Northeast Regional runs through Tuesday, October 25 and features student-athletes from 35 institutions.
