St. Thomas More won a pair of close sets to stay unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over Caesar Rodney in nonconference volleyball on Tuesday evening.

The final four sets were all decided by two or three points before the Ravens (8-0) registered a 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24 win.

The victory was St. Thomas More’s second-straight over the Riders.

Leading the Ravens were Sarah Pool (16 kills), Jessica Crawford (21 digs), Sarah Reeves (19 digs), Logan Hughes (9 kills) and Gillian Crawford (30 assists).

CR was paced by Sara Cessna (13 kills, 4 blocks), Shivani Modi (7 kills), Jazmine Stamas (13 digs, 25 assists) and Lynsy Gruwell (17 digs).

Smyrna 3, Delmar 0: The Eagles won a tight first set before posting the 26-24, 25-16, 25-13 victory.

The Wildcats were led by Avery Wheatley (7 kills, 4 aces, 8 digs), Samantha Lehman (2 kills, 1 ace, 7 digs, 11 assists) and Kelsie Hughes (2 kills, 1 ace, 10 digs).

Cape Henlopen 3, Sussex Academy 0: The Vikings improved to 5-1 with the 25-10, 25-13, 25-21 win.

Leading Cape were Logan Shuttleworth (6 aces, 7 digs, 16 assists), Madeline Holt (5 kills, 6 aces), Sophia Spinelli (5 kills, 3 aces) and Taylor Collier (4 kills, 3 aces).

Bailey Proden had a team-high four kills for the Seahawks while Bailey Hesson had three. Courtney Sneller added 16 digs.

Lake Forest 3, Sussex Central 0: The Spartans won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-18.

Milford 3, Seaford 1: The Buccaneers earned the Henlopen South victory, 25-13, 20-25, 25-8, 25-18.

Red Lion Christian 3, Dover 0: The Lions won the nonconference match by scores of 25-7, 25-7, 25-17.

Sussex Tech 3, Holly Grove Christian 2: The Ravens won the nonconference match in a tiebreaker, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-13.

Milford 2, Red Lion Christian 0: Eshnightder Estime and Ricardo Florestal netted second-half goals to lift the Buccaneers to the nonconference victory.

Milford finished with advantages of 20-1 in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks.

Laurel 4, Lake Forest 1: The Bulldogs scored four unanswered goals in the second half to pick up the Henlopen South victory.

Indian River 1, Sussex Central 0: The Indians scored in the second half to take the victory.

Sussex Tech 1, Cape Henlopen 0: Michael Barr’s goal in the 55th minute gave the Ravens the Henlopen North win.

Wilm. Friends 3, Dover 2: Emerson Escalante-Diaz scored a goal while goalie Sean Quirk made eight saves for the Senators in the nonconference loss.

The Quakers finished with advantages of 15-11 in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks.

Wilm. Christian 1, Smyrna 0: The Warriors netted a first-half goal in the nonconference win.

Field hockey

Milford 4, Smyrna 0: Four different players scored for the Buccaneers (8-0), who remained undefeated.

Daphne Leighty, Darby Brennan, Rajene Bowe and Katelyn Melvin all scored for Milford with Leah Barnett making four saves, The Bucs held edges of 21-6 in shots and 21-5 in corners.

Smyrna’s Elana Montejo had 13 saves with Taylor Brittingham and Autum Wilson adding defensive saves.

Polytech 5, Laurel 0: Lacy Bayley tallied a pair of goals to pace the Panthers.

Polytech also got goals from Grace Stang, Madison Knight and Cam Dennis. Maddi McKay added three assists for the Panthers, who held advantages of 23-0 in shots and 20-1 in corners.

Alexandria Ullman had 15 saves for the Bulldogs.

Indian River 1, Caesar Rodney 0: Madi McGee tallied a first-half goal and the Indians made it stand up in the Henlopen Conference win.

CR goalie Lauren Caulk made 10 saves as IR held advantages of 17-1 in shots and 8-2 in corners.

Cape Henlopen 4, Lake Forest 0: The Vikings tallied three first-half goals before posting the win.

Delmar 12, Sussex Central 0: Peyton Kemp tallied three of the Wildcats’ first six goals in the Henlopen Conference win.

Logan Walls added a pair of goals as nine different players scored. Delmar outshot the Golden Knights, 47-3, and held an edge of 17-3 in corners.

College field hockey

Wesley 4, Virginia Wesleyan 2: After going seven games without a goal, the Wolverines netted four goals in snapping an eight-game losing streak.

Lauren Niezgoda (Caesar Rodney) contributed to all four goals, scoring twice and dishing off a pair of assists. Allison Perugini added a goal and an assist while Morgan Seymour (Smyrna) scored her first goal of the year as well.

Goalie Sidney Knott earned the win, making two saves in the first half while Makenzie McIntyre made seven saves in the second half for Wesley (2-11).

Blue Hens crack Top 10: For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Delaware field hockey squad was ranked inside the Top 10 of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll as the Blue Hens were No. 9 in the most recent release.

Delaware had previously not been placed in the Top 10 since 1998 when the Hens reached as high as a No. 6 ranking. UD received 566 points to move up from the No. 10 spot.

The Blue Hens (10-2) have won a season-best six straight contests, including a 1-0 victory over then-No. 19 James Madison and a 3-2 overtime triumph at William & Mary this past weekend.

College football

Two Wolverines honored: After leading the Wesley College football team to a 63-9 victory over Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon, the Wolverine running back tandem of Jamar Baynard and E.J. Lee earned ECAC weekly honors.

Baynard was named ECAC Player of the Week after tying the Wesley record with five touchdowns. The Middletown High grad ran for 162 yards on 18 carries.

Lee earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors with a career-high 91 yards and two TDs on 14 carries. He also had a 29-yard receiving touchdown.

College volleyball

Wesley 3, Rosemont 0: The Wolverines used a dynamic, widespread attack to earn the sweep.

Eight different Wolverines registered at least one kill, with Jessica Tynes leading the way with nine. Codi Ziolkowski added eight kills while Tionne Graves-Brown chipped in with seven. Ziolkowski went off for a match-best seven aces while Graves-Brown, Tynes, and Lindsay Burg each added three.

Burg led the Wolverines (9-9) with 13 assists while Beth Schlecker added 10.
