St. Georges scored the final 35 points of the game to deal Caesar Rodney High a 47-12 loss in a nonconference football contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Riders trailed 12-0 but rallied to tie the game in the second quarter. They were led by Sequann Daniels’ kick return touchdown and a one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Jared Waggenhoffer.

The St. Georges defense forced two turnovers, both for touchdowns. Caesar Rodney fell to 0-4 on the season.

Sussex Central 49, Sussex Tech 14: Justin Jones rushed for three touchdowns as the Golden Knights won their Henlopen Conference Northern Division opener.

Isaiah Brown rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead Sussex Tech.

Caravel 2, Caesar Rodney 0: The Riders fell in the nonconference game at the University of Delaware’s Rullo Stadium.

MEN, Christopher Newport 2, Wesley 1: The Wolverines were on the receiving end of a bad hop that proved to be the difference.

On a ball played into the Wolverines’ box, a Wesley defender made an attempt to clear the ball, but it skidded off the wet pitch and took an uncharacteristic hop into the defender’s arm. A handball was called, granting CNU a penalty kick. The Captains scored on the kick to take an early 2-0 lead, and their fortunate tally proved to be the difference in the game as Wesley fell 2-1.

Tanner Yaw made nine saves in his first career start in goal for the Wolverines. Matt Dina scored for the Wolverines, marking his first career goal. Will Mileski earned the assist on the play.

WOMEN, Christopher Newport 9, Wesley 1: Katie Ford finished with the Wolverines’ tally on the night while Sam Brannigan made a career-high 17 saves. Amanda Deputy made a save as well over the final 10 minutes of play.

The Wolverines were held without a shot on goal in the first half as the Captains dictated the pace of play and placed 13 shots on goal in the first frame.

College volleyball

York 3, Wesley 0: The Wolverines struggled to generate an offense, hitting just .042 on the day. Jessica Tynes led the Navy and White with nine kills while Tionne Graves-Brown was limited to just five kills. Codi Ziolkowski finished with five kills, a pair of service aces, and a block. Kristin Wissler led the team with 19 digs while Lindsay Burg turned in a team-high 15 assists.

Wesley came out of the gates slowly, swinging at a -.135 rate in the first game. The Spartans capitalized, downing the Wolverines 25-13 in the opening frame. From that point the Wolverines played better and kept the score close, but could not overcome the Spartans as they fell in the second and third games by identical 25-22 scores.

The squad moves to 8-9 on the season and 0-2 in the CAC.

College field hockey

York 5, Wesley 0: Bridget Wood got the start and tied a career-high with 14 saves on the day. Brittany Bishop and Morgan Seymour led the offense with one shot on goal apiece. Wesley was outshot 27-3 and was limited to just one corner while York earned 10.
